Before leaving the house

1. Completely turn off unnecessary electronic devices

This method not only helps you save additional electricity costs but also keeps the space in the house cooler by reducing the heat emitted from electronic devices. Specifically, instead of just pressing the power button on the remote control, you should unplug the TV, fan, etc., and only plug them back in when you return home.

2. Close all doors before leaving

Before leaving, don’t forget to close both the front door and windows to limit the hot sun from shining into the room. If your room has glass doors, remember to cover them with curtains or blinds from the outside to prevent the inside of the house from being burned by the hot sun.

3. “Spread” water on the floor

For houses that are located in sunny and poor heat resistant directions (such as one-story houses), before leaving, you can “spread” a thin layer of water on the floor to limit the hot air from penetrating the floor. However, this method can only be applied to houses with few furniture and electronic devices and have a terrazzo floor.

When coming home

1. Only open windows when the sun has set

When coming home, opening windows is necessary for air exchange in the room. However, be sure to only open windows in a direction that is not directly exposed to the sun or when the sun has set.

2. Turn on fans, turn on the smart air conditioner

Cooling the house with an air conditioner is very easy because all you need to do is pick up the remote control and turn on the cool air. However, to make cooling effective and energy-saving, you should apply the 7-degree Celsius rule (meaning that the air conditioner temperature should be lower than the outdoor temperature by about 7 degrees Celsius) and combine it with a fan.

For houses without an air conditioner, place the fan in the coolest corner of the house and turn it on to direct the wind outwards, cooling the house and expelling hot air outside. Absolutely do not place the fan in a hot direction and blow wind inside. In addition, you can also buy some ice trays to place in front of the fan or combine it with a humidifier to create a cool atmosphere for your home.

3. Clean the house with cold water

Still using water to cool the floor of the house, but to cool the house faster, you can use ice water. If you have a terrazzo floor, apply the method of spreading a thin layer of ice water on the floor and let it dry naturally. If you have wooden floors, you have to wring out the cloth to avoid dampening the floor, but you can wipe it multiple times to reduce the floor temperature.

Long-term measures

The above cooling and temperature reducing methods are effective and efficient, but for long-term effectiveness, you should reinforce the insulation layer on the ceiling and invest in insulation film for the walls.
