Recently, People’s Artist Tu Long happily announced that his mother, artist Nguyen Thi Phuc (Minh Phuc), will be awarded the title of Excellent Artist. Tu Long shared: “So now our family has one more People’s Artist. The total number now is 2 Excellent Artists and 1 People’s Artist“.
Tu Long was born and raised in a family with an artistic tradition, both of his parents are artists. Tu Long’s biological father is People’s Artist Tu Lam, whose stage name is Hai Lam, a quan ho singer. In 2016, Tu Lam was awarded the title of People’s Artist on the same day Tu Long received the title of Meritorious Artist. Tu Long’s mother is also the first generation of artists of the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Singing Troupe. In 2024, artist Minh Phuc is on the list of artists to be awarded the title of People’s Artist.
People’s Artist Tu Long previously wrote a touching birthday tribute to his mother. He confided: “My mother is over seventy years old, she is the mother of a People’s Artist and the wife of an Excellent Artist. My mother was born into a family with many generations in the arts. My grandfather is the drummer of the Vietnam Cheo Theater. All my uncles studied at the University of Theater and Cinema. My mother sings quan ho very well. I only sing a fraction of what my mother can. My mother loves the profession and loves to sing, but during the years working at the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Troupe, my mother has not been recognized for anything, I feel sad for my mother. I have made efforts to achieve what I have today to dedicate it to my mother. My mother will be happy and proud of her son. Today is my mother’s birthday, I write a few lines hoping that my mother will be happy, healthy, love life, and be happy“.
In the program “Happy Memories,” Tu Long continues to share touching stories about his birth mother.
“My mother is also currently ill. She had a kidney transplant and has been battling cancer for 3 years. She used to lose all her hair, but now it grows back normally. And most importantly, to make my father happy, my mother does it out of joy and a sense of well-being. The doctors who treat my mother say they cannot believe that she can recover in such a normal way,” says People’s Artist Tu Long.
People’s Artist Tu Long is teary-eyed: “I didn’t spend much of my childhood with my parents. I have memories of being beaten. I love my father very much, and I am proud of him, but I have never said ‘I love you, Dad’ in my life
When I failed and was deceived… I shared it with my mother. I have a daughter and I also love her like that. Sometimes I playfully tease her, which makes her scared. She is afraid of me like I was afraid of my father. I ask my sister Van to speak on my behalf because I can’t do it.”
