1. Determine Your Face Proportions Before Going Short

According to Kan Kan, face proportions play a crucial role in deciding whether to go short with your hair. If you have a long jawline or neck, or if your head width is significantly larger than your shoulder width, it’s best to steer clear of short hair, as it will accentuate these imbalances.

There are three simple methods to determine your face proportions, and all you need is a flexible ruler.

The first method involves measuring the distance from your earlobe to your chin. If this distance is longer than 5.7 cm, a short haircut will likely accentuate a weak chin and make your face appear longer.

The second method is to measure the width of your head and divide it by the width of your shoulders. If the result is less than 0.47, avoid short hair, as it will make your head look disproportionately large compared to your body.

The third method involves measuring the length from your chin to your collarbone. If the result is less than 5 cm or greater than 9 cm, it’s best to stick with longer hair, as a short cut will emphasize a short or long neck.

2. Avoid Excess Volume If You Have a Round Face

Girls with abundant hair or those who style their hair to look fuller may create an effect of heaviness and roundness for those with round faces.

Kan Kan suggests that girls with slightly round faces should consider straightening their hair to reduce the puffy effect or opt for a length that falls below the shoulders to create a slimming and elegant look.

3. Go for Longer Hair If You Have Unbalanced Face Proportions

In reality, a balanced face is determined by the measurements from the hairline to the eyebrows, from the eyebrows to the tip of the nose, and from the tip of the nose to the chin. A short haircut will enhance your facial harmony if you have a well-proportioned face. Conversely, it will accentuate any imbalances if these three measurements are not equal.

If you have unbalanced face proportions, it’s advisable to go for a haircut that’s at least shoulder-length or longer.

Keep these three insights in mind before taking the plunge into short hair to avoid any hairstyle regrets!
