A recent trend of t-shirts featuring the slogan “Independence – Freedom – Happiness” has taken social media by storm, becoming a sought-after item on various shopping platforms. The keywords “Independence – Freedom – Happiness shirt” or “Patriotic shirt” on TikTok yield tens of thousands of results. Numerous local brands have sold tens of thousands of these shirts, with one brand selling nearly 100,000 of these trendy shirts in a short period.

Ms. May Nguyen, the owner of an online shop, shared that she had sold approximately 3,000 celebratory shirts for the April 30 holiday over the past month. The shirts are available in simple white and black colors, featuring the slogan, the national flag, conical hats, images of people celebrating the historical victory, and historical landmarks. These patriotic shirts are priced affordably, ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 VND. Many people are buying them not just for themselves but also for their children.
This trend goes beyond social media hype; it is a way for young people to express their love for their country and their pride in the 50-year journey towards national reunification. Ngoc Hai excitedly shared, “I have many nice shirts, but the ‘Independence – Freedom – Happiness’ shirt is the one I treasure the most.” Another young enthusiast, Tuong Vy, expressed her sentiments: “Patriotism is not a trend; it’s in our genes. Wearing this shirt fills me with emotion and makes me even prouder.”

This trend has also sparked a wave of check-ins at historical landmarks among young people during this significant period. At the Independence Palace, numerous youths donning the “Independence – Freedom – Happiness” shirts captured memorable photos during the national celebration. Singer Phuong My Chi also wore the trendy shirt during her visit to the Vietnam Military History Museum in Hanoi. “We may not memorize every page of history, but we must know our nation’s history and remember the ‘Save the Country – Protect the Country – Build the Country’ sacrifices made by our ancestors, who laid down their lives for our freedom,” the singer expressed.
In addition to the popular April 30th commemorative shirts, other items such as ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), objects adorned with the national flag, and decorative items have also become trendy. These creative expressions of patriotism among the youth help spread the spirit of patriotism in a relatable and vibrant manner.
