With Christmas just around the corner, renowned hair stylist to the Welsh beauty, Richard Ward, has shared some incredibly useful tips. He suggests that women can easily achieve and maintain voluminous curls, just like Kate Middleton, for up to a week – right up until New Year’s Eve.

The powerful woman of the British Royal Family often appears with her hair styled in loose, bouncy curls.
Each Christmas, the beauty greets everyone with a new look. This year, Kate seems to have straightened her hair, but compared to her usual curly hairstyle, the straight look doesn’t seem to flatter her as much.
Curls are the “true love”
Richard says: “If you want your hair to last longer, ask your stylist to incorporate curls or waves into your hairstyle.” You can also curl your hair yourself using hair rollers or curling irons. The more skilled you are at blow-drying, the fluffier and bouncier your hair will be. To maintain volume and bounce for a long time, hair usually needs to be heat-styled.
However, the expert also advises women to consider the use of hairspray to set their curls.
Kate’s stylist says: “Using too much product is definitely not a good idea.” Too much hairspray not only weighs down the hair but can also attract dirt, which means you’ll have to wash your hair sooner.
How to maintain curls while sleeping
Hair experts often recommend silk pillowcases over cotton ones as they are softer and less likely to cause frizz or tangles. Richard agrees that this can definitely help preserve your curls, but he also suggests putting your hair up before bed.
He shares: “Gather your hair into a high ponytail and secure it with a silk scrunchie. Make sure the ponytail is tight enough so that your hair doesn’t fall out while you sleep. The nape area may get slightly frizzy, but this will be hidden when you let your hair down in the morning.”
Or you can also sleep with your hair swept upwards like this to maintain your curls.
Be careful when bathing/exercising
Richard reveals: “Having your hair get wet or sweaty will greatly affect the longevity of your curls. Therefore, wearing a shower cap is mandatory, and if you’re going to be in any other humid environment like cooking, wear a shower cap.”
In humid environments, keep the windows open for ventilation to ensure your hair doesn’t get damp. The expert even advises women to be careful when wearing a shower cap to avoid hair creases where the elastic band sits.
Use dry shampoo or partial washing
Richard says: “If you feel that your hair is getting greasy, dry shampoo is a great option, but be careful when using it. Using too much will dull the color of your hair, so I always advise only applying it to the roots. Follow the instructions: spray it on the roots, leave it on for a few minutes, massage it in, and then brush it out.”
Additionally, if your hair needs a boost after a few days, flip your head upside down, spray dry shampoo on the roots, and blow-dry immediately.
Washing your hair – but not all of it – is another helpful tip Richard shares. Usually, the roots get greasy faster than the rest of the hair. So, if after three or four days of styling, your bangs or roots look thin and greasy, quickly fix it by washing just the bangs or roots.
