For many years, money was silently regarded as the measure of happiness, with people devoting their youth to earning it. Beyond worrying about their offspring and improving their family’s lives, their long-term goal was to achieve a comfortable retirement.

The type of person who remains unhappy despite their wealth
However, not everyone who is wealthy enjoys a peaceful old age. A 55-year-old woman who once worked as a nanny for wealthy families noticed that there were three types of people who faced significant challenges in their later years:
Those who neglect their health
Most people tend to think that once they have good health, they no longer need to take care of themselves. But one day, when illness strikes, they realize that their neglect has serious consequences. Unaware that this could happen, they often don’t take their medication or undergo regular health check-ups.
For an elderly person, the quality of life is closely linked to their health. If they lose their self-awareness or become immobile, their daily life will become challenging, and they will depend on others for their care.
I once cared for a 70-year-old man who had both diabetes and high blood pressure. Despite his conditions, he didn’t change his diet and continued eating as he always had. In his final years, he was bedridden.
It is crucial for elderly people to take care of their health, follow a proper diet, and take their medication and regular health check-ups.

Those who spoil their children
In life, some people love their children so much that they provide for them materially in various ways. They believe that by doing so, their children will be more filial and caring towards them. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes, the more you give, the more dependent and ungrateful your children can become.
I know of several people like this. They have arranged everything for their children, even giving them their salaries. Yet, surprisingly, their children do not respect them. A woman in her 60s confided in me that despite working hard her entire life, she now lives alone. “Money can’t buy love,” she said.
Another nanny shared with me that she once cared for a 70-year-old woman who adored her son and gave him money regularly. The son took this for granted and didn’t reciprocate his mother’s care. In her final years, the woman lived in loneliness and despair. “If I hadn’t spoiled my son so much, I wouldn’t be in this situation,” she lamented.
Those who are unable to manage their wealth
I once worked for a 60-year-old woman who had a substantial savings account. With too much time on her hands and a gullible nature, she was easily persuaded by acquaintances to invest all her savings in a scam. In the end, she lost everything.
It is essential for elderly people to manage their finances themselves if they are mentally capable. They should not hand over their money to others and must remain vigilant against investment scams. Only then can they ensure their freedom and security in their later years. Otherwise, even a substantial savings account can disappear in an instant.
