The Legend of Rhododendron
You may not know, but behind the elegant beauty of Rhododendron flowers lies a very touching legend. The story begins long ago with a happily married couple. The husband often went hunting and logging in the deep forest, but one day, he went into the forest and never returned.
The wife waited month after month but didn’t receive any news from her husband. Therefore, she decided to go into the deep forest to find him. However, ironically, as soon as the wife left home, the husband returned.
The wife couldn’t find her husband and became exhausted, eventually dying beside a rock. From her resting place, a flower bloomed, spreading a sweet scent. Touched by her story, the deity named that flower after her, calling it Rhododendron.

Rhododendron symbolizes the love between couples
The husband didn’t find his wife at home, so he also went into the deep forest to search for her. Unable to find his wife, he became exhausted and died on that same rock.
After death, the husband transformed into a bird, singing every day to find his wife. The deity, moved by his devotion, named that bird “Quyen” (pronounced “quen” which means “to forget” in Vietnamese).
Since then, people have called that flower Rhododendron with the hope that the married couple will be reunited and live happily together.
