Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, Hanoi is proud not only of its historical values but also of its appeal as a photogenic destination. Here are some incredibly picturesque spots to commemorate this special occasion in Vietnam’s history.
Phung Hung Street
The Phung Hung Mural Space in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, is a trendy hotspot for youngsters to explore and snap photos, featuring the exhibition “Hanoi Memories – 70 Years.” As you stroll down Phung Hung Street, you’ll step into a Hanoi of the past, where each house and street corner bears the marks of the resistance war. The fortifications and walls with the slogan “Determined to fight to the death for the survival of the country” once symbolized the resilience and indomitable spirit of the Hanoi soldiers and citizens during the 60 fiery days and nights. This historical narrative is now recreated through models and valuable documentary films, transporting viewers back to that pivotal moment in time, evoking a flood of emotions.
Right from the entrance, visitors are greeted by a dazzling display of lanterns emblazoned with the slogan, “70 Years of Liberation of the Capital, 10/10/2024.” Don’t miss the particularly “hot” spot at this exhibition: the rubber sandal shop. The legendary rubber sandals, a symbol of the anti-French resistance, have been faithfully reconstructed. Made from old military vehicle tires, these sandals once accompanied our soldiers through challenging terrain, and now they’ve become sought-after souvenirs among young enthusiasts.
Hanoi Flag Tower
The Hanoi Flag Tower, also known as the Hanoi Flagpole, was constructed during the Nguyen Dynasty. It stands as a “historical witness” to the resilience and indomitable spirit of the city’s people and was the site of the historic flag-hoisting ceremony on the afternoon of October 10, 1954.
Located at 28A Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, within the premises of the Vietnam Military History Museum, the Hanoi Flag Tower is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, between 9 am and 5 pm. The entrance fee is VND 20,000 for adults. Students, seniors over 60, and teenagers between 15 and 18 years old enjoy a discounted rate of VND 10,000. Children under 15 and those with revolutionary merits are exempt from the fee.
