Effective Fly Traps Using Sugar and Detergent
This is an incredibly simple method. Take a bowl and add 2-3 spoons of sugar. Then, add detergent at a 1:1 ratio and pour in just enough warm water to form a solution. Stir well to dissolve the sugar and detergent.
Place this bowl in areas where flies are frequently spotted. The sweetness of the sugar will attract the flies, while the detergent creates a soapy solution that traps them. Once they land on the surface, they will struggle to escape and eventually drown. Try this method for a few days, and you’ll notice a significant reduction in the fly population.
Vinegar to the Rescue
White vinegar is an extremely effective fly repellent. Simply pour some vinegar into a spray bottle and spritz it in areas where flies are a nuisance. Flies detest the smell of acetic acid, so they’ll steer clear of these areas after you’ve applied the vinegar.
A Slick Combination: Oil, Sugar, and Detergent
For this method, you’ll need a bowl, brown sugar, detergent, and a small amount of cooking oil. Start by adding the brown sugar to the bowl, followed by detergent at a 2:1 ratio. Then, add a little more detergent and a few drops of oil (the oil helps to thicken the solution and make it stickier). Finally, add water and mix well.
Take a piece of plastic wrap and poke a small hole in it. Place the bowl underneath the hole and set it in an area infested with flies. They will be attracted to the sugar, crawl through the hole, and become trapped in the sticky solution.
A Penny for Your Thoughts: Repelling Flies with Water and Coins
This is a time-honored method. Simply take a clear, thick plastic bag and fill it with about 5-6 coins. Add water until the bag is half full, then tie it shut. Hang this bag near windows, in the kitchen, or wherever flies are a problem. Flies are averse to light reflections, and the combination of water and coins creates just that, driving them away swiftly.
