Mu Waterfall: A Hidden Gem in Hoa Binh Province

Mu Waterfall is a hidden gem located in the upper reaches of Mu Stream, captivating visitors with its pristine and lush natural scenery.

According to the Hoa Binh Province’s official portal, Mu Waterfall was recognized as a provincial-level scenic relic site in 2017. It is one of the most beautiful natural waterfalls in the province, attracting a large number of tourists every year.

At the base of the waterfall are a series of gentle tiers and a vast, emerald lake formed by the erosive power of the flowing water. This area is a favorite among visitors, offering a refreshing swimming and recreational spot during the summer heat.

Mr. Khac Viet, a tourist from Hanoi, shared his first impression of Mu Waterfall. “Visiting during the summer, I felt the temperature drop by about 10 degrees Celsius compared to the capital. I completely forgot about the scorching heat. Coming to Mu Waterfall makes you never want to leave,” he humorously added.

With its breathtaking beauty, Mu Waterfall was ranked by the American travel blog, Culture Trip, as one of the 15 most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam.

Mr. Viet also mentioned the convenient access to the waterfall, with a concrete path and stairs leading directly to the site. From the entrance, it is just a few hundred meters’ walk to the waterfall.

In addition to the vast lake at the base, swimmers can also enjoy the water along the Mu Stream, as shared by Mr. Viet.

Mu Waterfall is divided into multiple tiers, each with its own unique path, making it convenient for visitors to explore and experience the site.

The ideal time to visit this destination is during the summer months, from May to September. The weather is pleasant, and the waterfall boasts a high volume of water, creating a more mystical atmosphere with its clear, clean lake.

Besides swimming, visitors can also enjoy camping, trekking, and organizing barbecue parties at Mu Waterfall.

The area around the waterfall offers rest stops and homestay services provided by the local community, providing a comfortable stay for those wishing to spend the day or overnight.

According to the Mu Waterfall Tourism Cooperative, the management and development of the waterfall for tourism purposes is a recent endeavor, and as a result, accommodation services in the area are not yet well established.

Currently, visitors who wish to stay overnight can choose from a few homestays designed in the local style of stilt houses, located near Mu Stream 1, 2, and 3. The rates are very affordable, ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 VND per person per night.

With its lush and serene surroundings, Mu Waterfall offers a “healing” experience, attracting visitors seeking to immerse themselves in nature.

For day trips, visitors can bring their own tents for camping by the waterfall, enjoying the scenery while having a barbecue. Alternatively, they can rent a local lan (a small house or shelter) for around 100,000–200,000 VND to relax and enjoy their meals.

Mu Waterfall also presents an opportunity to indulge in local delicacies and specialties such as mountain snails, bamboo-tube rice (com lam), grilled chicken, wild boar meat, and forest bamboo shoots. These dishes can be ordered from the accommodations around the waterfall, prepared and served by the locals at reasonable prices.
