Despite the heavy rain and flooded streets, the woman remained calm and collected, casually browsing her phone. Next to her were trays of hot sticky rice and cassava carefully placed on a chair.

Below the video, netizens left humorous comments about this unique scenario.
“I wish I had her calmness. Rain or shine, flooded or not, she’s out there selling her food with passion,” commented Trang Anh.
“She probably only sells on days when the cassava is at its best, so even though the weather is bad, she’s still serving her beloved customers,” joked Dung Pham.
“Support her business, or she might get upset and quit! Then, when we want to eat her delicious food, we won’t know where to go,” said Ngoc Vu.
In an interview with VietNamNet, Ms. Hoang Thuy, the owner of the viral sticky rice and cassava stall, expressed her surprise at the attention her everyday routine had garnered.
Thuy shared that due to the heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon Yagi, many streets in Haiphong were flooded, including the area where she usually sets up her stall. However, she still opened for business to cater to her customers’ needs.

In addition to sticky rice and cassava, Thuy also offers other cassava dishes such as steamed cassava and cassava cakes, priced between 15,000 and 20,000 VND per serving. Among these, the sticky rice and cassava dish is the most popular.
To ensure the food stays warm, Thuy places each dish in separate containers over a charcoal stove.
Since cassava is a seasonal ingredient, Thuy’s stall operates depending on its availability, usually from July to February of the following year.
“I usually open at 9 am, sometimes later, as preparing the ingredients and cooking the cassava dishes takes a lot of time. My family of 3-4 people has to wake up as early as 1 am, each with a specific task, to get everything ready,” Thuy shared.

To ensure the best quality, Thuy selects cassava grown on hillsides and uses high-quality glutinous rice. On average, she uses about one ton of these ingredients every day.
Haiphong locals humorously note that you need a bit of luck to buy food from Thuy’s stall, as it opens late and often sells out early. Some customers have tried multiple times but haven’t had the chance to purchase her food.
“For those of us who work in offices, the stall isn’t open when we leave for work, and by the time we get off, it’s already sold out. I’ve eaten here once, and I really liked it, but you do need a bit of luck to be able to buy her food,” shared Thuy Linh, a customer from Le Chan district.

Linh described the stall as a small setup with a few containers of food, carefully covered. She praised the owner for her friendliness and willingness to accommodate different portion sizes. However, she noted that the stall only offers takeout and has irregular opening hours, usually closing on Sundays.
“There are two types of cassava here. One is the dry, powdery type, similar to potato, for those who prefer a drier texture. The other is the sticky cassava. You can ask the owner to choose according to your preference,” added Thuy Linh.
Similarly, regular customer Thao Nguyen suggested that customers call ahead to place an order or ask the owner to set aside a portion to avoid disappointment.
“I’ve never felt sick after eating cassava from here, unlike other places. Their sticky rice and cassava dish is my favorite, especially during the colder months. At the start of the cassava season, the rice is stickier and tastier than at the end,” Thao remarked.
