What is a business license?

A business license is a certification document issued by the Department of Planning and Investment, to prove that an individual or organization has met the legal requirements under the management of the state, and is allowed to conduct business activities in a specific field and for a certain period of time.

The business license describes specific activities that companies are allowed to carry out through basic information such as: name, tax number, head office, capital amount, etc., and related information regarding professional certificates or other business certification documents.

Having a business license is not only an important step to ensure legality and compliance with legal regulations, but also helps to generate trust from customers, business partners, and authorities. Business licenses are often publicly displayed at the business location and may be required in business transactions and with tax authorities.

Purpose of the business license

The main purpose of the business license is as a tool to manage and control the activities of organizations and individuals to ensure legality and transparency in business in specific fields. In addition, the business license is also a way for businesses to demonstrate credibility and reliability to partners and customers.

Validity period of the business license

Based on the industry sector that the company registers, the business license will have different expiration dates, depending on the regulations of the state for each specific business sector.

  • In most business fields that do not have requirements, you do not need to worry too much about the expiration date of the license.
  • For some industries that have specific requirements, the business license will have a specific expiration date. For example, a liquor business license will have a duration of 5 years.
