The Rhythm of the Fish Wharf

About 18km from Dau Giay intersection towards Dalat, the fish wharf buzzes with a unique rhythm. Every day, the market opens twice: from 3 am to 8 am, welcoming the night fishing boats, and again at 10 am for the day catch.

The peak season at the fish wharf is during the flood season. On busy days, the market operates non-stop to accommodate the surge in the fish catch.

Famous for its abundant aquatic resources, Tri An Lake is home to over 100 species of fish, including rare ones. At Phu Cuong Fish Wharf, buyers can easily find delicious freshwater fish such as pangasius, snakehead fish, and vinh catfish, as well as traditionally prepared dried fish.

What sets this fish wharf apart is its product procurement system. The wholesalers are always ready to purchase the entire catch, ensuring a stable market for the fishermen’s harvest.

A Unique Mobile Fish Wharf

Unlike regular fish markets, Phu Cuong Fish Wharf is mobile, with stalls mounted on wheels. This design allows traders to easily move along with the lake’s water levels, ensuring smooth and quick transportation of fish from boats to shore. The ability to adapt to the tides and water levels is a unique feature of this fish wharf. When the water recedes, the stalls are moved closer to the water’s edge for convenient loading and unloading, guaranteeing fresh fish for consumers.

Phu Cuong Fish Wharf usually operates in two shifts per day. Specifically, the wharf starts at 3 am and runs until around 8 am for the first shift, catering mainly to night fishing boats. Then, there’s a break until about 10 am when the second shift begins (lasting about 3 hours) for the day fishing boats.

However, during the peak season (from April to July), the wharf operates all day long as the water levels are low, and fishing activities intensify.

Phu Cuong Fish Wharf is not just a hub for seafood trade but also symbolizes the traditional fishing profession of the local people. Every day, hundreds of laborers find employment here, including fishermen, traders, and those involved in ancillary activities and transportation.

The fish wharf has significantly contributed to the region’s economic development, improving the locals’ livelihoods and preserving the traditional fishing trade.

A Promising Tourist Destination

Not far from the fish wharf is Xa Cu Island, a captivating destination offering breathtaking scenery and delicious specialties made from Tri An Lake fish. Visitors can indulge in tasty dried kìm fish, hot snakehead fish porridge, or grilled vinh catfish with salt, while also immersing themselves in the bustling atmosphere of a traditional fish wharf.

Strategically located near major transport routes, Phu Cuong Fish Wharf is steadily establishing itself as a prominent seafood trading center and an appealing eco-tourism destination in Dong Nai Province.

For those intrigued by local cultural exploration and relishing fresh seafood, a visit to Phu Cuong Fish Wharf—where majestic nature meets the rustic lifestyle of Tri An Lake dwellers—is a must.
