Don’t throw away banana peels! If you know how to make the most of them, you can not only help your plants thrive but also save a significant amount on fertilizer costs each year.

Houseplants and flowers love bananas just as much as we do. Banana peels can be easily fermented to create an extremely effective type of organic fertilizer.

Houseplants and flowers can benefit from banana peels just as much as humans.

Fermented banana peel is a natural source of nutrients, helping plants absorb quickly through their roots, stimulating root growth, and promoting more flowering.

It’s easy to do:

  • Collect banana peels and sun-dry them on your balcony to reduce their moisture and minimize odor.

  • Cut the peels into small pieces and place them in a bottle of water to ferment.

  • After fermentation, dilute the solution and use it to water your plants – it’s simple, economical, and highly effective.

After about two weeks of fermentation, you can use the banana peel solution to water your plants. When watering, dilute the solution with clean water: first water with the banana solution, then water again with regular water to neutralize. After use, refill the bottle with water to continue the fermentation process – one batch of banana peels can be used to create 2-3 batches of fertilizer.

After two weeks, you can start using the fermented banana peel solution to water your plants.

For the final use, you can take advantage of the banana residue: gently dig into the surface of the soil with a trowel and bury the fermented peels near the plant’s roots. Or, when repotting, mix the fermented peels directly into the soil as a natural organic fertilizer.

Fermented banana peels are even better than chemical fertilizers because plants can absorb the nutrients faster, promoting healthier root growth and more abundant flowering.
