## How to Cook Perfect Rice: Soft, Fluffy, and Full of Flavor
Soaking the Rice
Most people are accustomed to cooking rice immediately after rinsing it. However, for better results, try soaking the rice in water for about 10 minutes. This allows the grains to absorb moisture beforehand, leading to more evenly cooked, softer, and sweeter rice.
If you prefer mixing white rice with brown rice, it’s best to soak the brown rice for 1-2 hours beforehand to ensure both types cook evenly.
Adding Ice Cubes Before Cooking
After rinsing and adding the rice to the pot, drop in 2-3 ice cubes and wait for about 15 minutes before starting the cook cycle. The ice delays the absorption of water by the rice, resulting in fluffier rice. Additionally, the ice cubes help achieve a whiter, more appealing presentation.
A Splash of Vinegar or Lemon Juice
One trick to achieving whiter, more fragrant, and tastier rice is to add a few drops of vinegar or lemon juice. After rinsing the rice and adding water to the pot, include a spoonful of white vinegar. The vinegar prevents the rice from becoming sticky while maintaining its whiteness. The vinegar scent will dissipate as the rice boils. Lemon juice or vinegar also enhances the aroma and flavor of the cooked rice.
A Touch of Oil
When cooking rice, adding a small amount of cooking oil (or any oil of your choice, such as coconut or olive oil) can make the grains shinier and more enticing. However, it’s important to note that oil should not be added after the rice is cooked, as it may result in an overly greasy and unappetizing dish.
A Pinch of Salt
Adding a few grains of salt to the rice pot enhances the flavor and helps preserve the rice for longer, especially in hot weather.
When reheating cooled rice, adding a little salted water can also bring back the flavor and freshness of newly cooked rice.
