Nestled within a resort town in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province, a massive hardwood stilt house spanning nearly 500 square meters has been recognized by the Vietnam Records Organization as the “Largest Lim Wood Stilt House in Vietnam.”

The house, owned by Bui Duc Giang, a prominent businessman in Dien Bien, spans an impressive 500 square meters within the Him Lam Ecological Tourism Area.

Completed in 2014, the house sits on a 2,000-square-meter plot and was constructed using 500 cubic meters of pure lim wood, requiring over 20,000 labor hours from skilled artisans.

The materials alone for this stilt house cost over 200 billion VND, excluding labor costs for the 20,000 work hours.

Designed in the architectural style of the Thai ethnic group, the stilt house features seven guest rooms and three roof spaces, each spanning 3.8 meters in width.

One of the two main entrances to the house blends modern and ancient architectural styles, with a 3.5-meter-tall gate.

The house is adorned with intricate carvings of “dragon, ly, tortoise, and phoenix” and “pine, chrysanthemum, bamboo, and plum” motifs, as well as various birds, animals, flowers, and leaves, all skillfully crafted by artisans.

The structure boasts a sturdy system of 64 pillars, including 16 main pillars (with diameters ranging from 60 to 80 centimeters and heights of 11.9 meters) and 48 surrounding pillars (with diameters of 35 to 40 centimeters and heights of 8 meters). The pillar bases are made of pure copper, weighing 3.5 tons.

Additionally, the first floor of the stilt house features 14 wooden platforms made from 300 to 500-year-old agarwood and golden rosewood.
The pure copper pillar bases weigh a total of 3.5 tons.

Besides serving as a tourist attraction, the lim wood stilt house also functions as a restaurant, accommodating 500 to 700 guests and offering a variety of delicious dishes from the ethnic minorities of Northwest Vietnam.

The house features railings on the front and back, and its two main entrances have 15 steps each, symbolizing the owner’s refined perspective on the universe, yin and yang, the five elements, and a noble outlook on life.
