Eager to push her boundaries and delve into the “dating culture” of different countries, Anne Marie embarked on a journey of self-discovery and exploration, aiming to make foreign friends during her travels.

The American traveler shared with Mail Online Travel that her nomadic lifestyle began when she moved from a small town in North Carolina to New York and then ventured further abroad, living in Japan, Panama, and even India at the age of 18.

However, it was her decision to date foreigners that added a whole new dimension to her travels.

According to Anne Marie, New York City, Italy, and Croatia are the three most romantic destinations in the world, with New York taking the top spot. “The city’s serendipitous encounters will make you feel like you’re living in an ultra-romantic movie,” she gushes.

“I relish the romantic dates and unique experiences that New York has to offer. For instance, I once planned a date on an open-door helicopter ride, taking in breathtaking views of iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and Central Park,” Anne Marie recounts.

She also recounts having “some of her best dates” in Italy, including one where a suitor braved torrential rains in Milan to meet her.

Lake Como left an indelible mark on Anne Marie as well, and she found Croatian men to be equally romantic and open-minded.

London, with its “quirky encounters” and “sweet, reserved, and polite” gentlemen, also holds a special place in Anne Marie’s heart. “British culture, with its afternoon teas and weekend BBQs, also appealed to me,” she adds.

However, she found it challenging to connect with men in Latin America and Switzerland. “I found Swiss men to be more reserved and inclined to socialize only with people they already know. I respect that, and they are still very kind, but they aren’t as open to newcomers,” she explains.

Despite visiting 25 countries, Anne Marie is still searching for her soulmate. Her quest continues, albeit with a more relaxed approach, as she no longer places high expectations on new relationships.
