Non-medical treatment
– Honey: In traditional medicine, honey has long been considered as a remedy for common cough and sore throat. Additionally, pregnant women can safely use honey without worrying about its impact on the health of the baby. The sweet taste of honey is soothing and helps relieve sore throat, boost the immune system, and alleviate cough quickly.
– Lemon: Lemon has long been used with honey as an effective cough remedy. Lemon contains a high amount of vitamin C, which acts as a natural antioxidant, antiviral, and antibacterial agent, thus effectively enhancing the immunity of pregnant women. Moreover, lemon helps supplement potassium, support better kidney function, remove toxins from the body, and helps pregnant women recover from cold and cough.
During pregnancy, if a pregnant woman experiences coughing, she can slice a few pieces of lemon and mix them with a little honey. Then, she can hold them in her throat to help alleviate cough and throat inflammation. When coughing, pregnant women should drink warm lemon water 1-2 times a day. It can be combined with honey.
– Ginger: In traditional Chinese medicine, ginger is a valuable ingredient for cough treatment, especially for dry cough caused by allergy or viral infection. Warm ginger tea or ginger water also effectively reduces cough during cold weather. Furthermore, ginger is a safe cough remedy for pregnant women.
