“On My Daughter’s Birthday, I Texted My Ex-Husband ‘I Miss You’—3 Days Later, I Received a Package That Made Me Burst into Tears”

“On My Daughter’s Birthday, I Texted My Ex-Husband ‘I Miss You’—3 Days Later, I Received a Package That Made Me Burst into Tears”

Finally, I gathered the courage to send a brief message to my ex-husband: “I miss you so much.”

Afterwards, I wrote extensively, apologizing for everything I had caused, expressing how much I missed our daughter and the warmth of our little family. I pleaded for a chance to start over. The message was sent, but for three long days, there was no response.

I thought I had lost them forever. However, on the third day, a package arrived at my office. When I opened it, I burst into tears like a child.

I was once the pride of my family. Graduating with honors, pursuing a master’s degree, and building a promising career, I married my high school sweetheart. We grew up together, overcoming countless challenges before our simple yet joyful wedding.

When our daughter was born, I thought my life was complete.

But I was the one who gradually lost it all.

After giving birth, I became convinced that my education and skills could earn more than my husband. I suggested he stay home with our daughter and his mother while I worked to support the family. He initially hesitated, fearing the pressure, but eventually agreed.

At first, everything seemed fine. I immersed myself in work, often staying late and meeting clients. Meanwhile, he stayed home, changing diapers, cooking, cleaning, and tending to our sick child at night. Over time, I grew distant, rarely coming home, sharing meals, or spending time with our daughter and husband.

Arguments began to surface.

I criticized him for lacking ambition and staying home. I complained about the smell of food, milk, and diapers on him. I found the image of a man confined to the kitchen dull and uninspiring.

Looking back, he endured so much. He never raised his voice or hindered my career, silently supporting me so I could focus on my goals.

But at the time, I didn’t see it.

When our daughter turned three, we divorced.

I left her in his care, providing 5 million VND monthly. Leaving that marriage felt like a relief. I thought I was free from a husband without ambition and the burdens of household chores and parenting.

I dedicated myself to work, eventually building a successful company. I met many accomplished, wealthy, and sophisticated men. Yet, none made me feel as loved and cared for as my ex-husband once did.

The turning point came when I met a wealthy single father. His daughter was adorable, and we grew close. Every weekend, we’d go out for ice cream or to the park.

Once, I jokingly asked, “Why do you like me so much?”

I expected her to mention the gifts or outings, but she simply said:

Everyone needs a mom. I miss mine so much. I want you to be my mom.

Her words pierced my heart. That night, I couldn’t sleep.

For the first time in years, I looked at old photos of my daughter. I realized it had been three years since I’d truly been there for her. I missed her calls due to meetings, forgot to reply to her messages, and rarely visited her.

I thought sending money was enough, but a child needs more than that. She needs her mother.

This year, on her birthday, there were no reminders from her or her father. Perhaps they stopped hoping after I ignored their calls for so long.

I didn’t dare call, only messaging my ex-husband. I wrote extensively, apologizing for my selfishness, for underestimating his sacrifices, for missing our daughter’s childhood. I admitted I missed him, our daughter, and our little family. If given a chance, I wanted to make it right. But three days passed with no response. I blamed myself for being too late.

Then the package arrived. Inside were no gifts or valuable documents, but hundreds of photos. Our daughter’s first day of kindergarten, her fourth birthday, learning to ride a bike, receiving awards, trips to the beach, park, and zoo.

I cried as I saw her grow up without me.

One detail broke my heart. In many photos, she held an old stuffed bunny, the last gift I gave her before our divorce. She still cherished it.

At the bottom of the box was a handwritten letter from my ex-husband.

He wrote that despite our divorce, I was never truly gone in their hearts. Our daughter always spoke of me, hugged the bunny at night, and believed I’d return one day.

He ended with: “If you don’t look down on me anymore, if you truly want to come back, we’re here. Let’s start over for our daughter’s sake.”

I held the letter tightly, sobbing uncontrollably.

For the first time in years, I realized a woman’s greatest success isn’t her company’s revenue or bank balance.

It’s having a home to return to, someone waiting at the dinner table, and a child calling you “Mom.”

Without hesitation, I grabbed the package, held the old bunny tightly, and rushed out, eager to reunite with my family.

This time, I won’t miss a single moment with them.
