My dear son,
I’m writing this letter to you for three important reasons.
Firstly, life is unpredictable and fragile. None of us knows how long we have on this earth, and there are some things that are better said sooner rather than later.
Secondly, as your father, if I don’t tell you these things, no one else will. There are lessons that only a father can teach his son.
And thirdly, what I’m about to share are hard-earned lessons and experiences. My hope is that they will help you grow and avoid some of the pitfalls I encountered on my journey.
In today’s world, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the pursuit of success and wealth. But we must never forget the importance of character and integrity. Too often, people forget what it truly means to be a “good person.”
I want you to become the man you aspire to be, and always remember these words of advice:
1. Don’t hold grudges against those who wrong you
In this world, no one is obligated to treat you well, except for your parents. For those who show you kindness, cherish and appreciate them. But be cautious, as people rarely act without ulterior motives. As for those who wrong you, don’t give them too much of your time or energy.
2. Nothing and no one is irreplaceable
Understand this, and you’ll realize that even if you lose everything you hold dear, it’s not the end of the world. You will be able to move forward and rebuild.

3. Life is fleeting
Remember, each day is precious. Don’t squander your life away. The sooner you appreciate the value of your life, the more fully you will live.
Don’t expect to live a long life; instead, focus on making the most of every moment.
4. Love is fleeting
If the one you love leaves you, be patient and give yourself time to heal. The pain will fade, and you will find happiness again. Don’t let yourself be consumed by the sweetness of love or the bitterness of heartbreak.
5. Success doesn’t always require academic excellence
While it’s true that some successful people didn’t excel in school, that doesn’t mean you should follow their path. Knowledge is power, and the more you learn, the better equipped you will be to face the challenges of life. Remember, you can start with nothing, but you need weapons to build a successful life.
6. Nothing in life is free
For 26 years, I’ve been buying lottery tickets, and I’ve never even won the third prize. This should teach you that success requires hard work and dedication. Nothing in this world is truly free.
7. I won’t be able to support you forever
I don’t expect you to take care of me in my old age, and likewise, I won’t be able to provide for you indefinitely. Once you become an adult, it’s up to you to decide whether you want to ride in a limousine or take the bus.
8. How you treat others doesn’t dictate how they’ll treat you
You can hold yourself to high standards of behavior and integrity, but you can’t expect the same from everyone else. People won’t always reciprocate your actions. If you don’t realize this, you’ll only bring unnecessary stress and disappointment into your life.
9. We only get one chance to be a family in this lifetime
Treasure the time we have together as a family, because in the next life, we may not be so lucky to find each other again. Whether it’s a long or short time we have together, make the most of it and cherish every moment.
The Tales of Our Ancestors: Lessons That Remain Valuable 5,000 Years Later
China, a country with over 5000 years of history, is renowned for its emphasis on “family values.” The ancient Chinese believed that one must first cultivate oneself and uphold moral virtues to effectively “manage one’s family, govern the country, and bring peace to the world.” This philosophy has left a rich legacy of invaluable wisdom for generations to come.
