Exploring the Unique Characteristics of Muscovy Ducks
The Muscovy duck is native to Son Tay commune in Hanoi and is now being reared in various provinces across Vietnam. These ducks have distinctive features such as short bodies, large thighs, deep eyes, red combs, glossy feathers, and golden legs. The male ducks have a reddish-purple coat, while the female ducks typically have a gray or yellowish color.
Muscovy duck originated from Son Tay
According to a study conducted by An Ninh et al. in 2003, Muscovy ducks typically weigh around 32 grams at birth. By the time they reach 4 months of age, male ducks have an average weight of approximately 2.32 kg, while female ducks weigh about 2.9 kg. Adult females generally weigh between 3-3.5 kg, while adult males can reach weights of up to 5 kg.
Muscovy ducks begin laying eggs at 7-8 months old. They can lay up to 50-55 eggs per year, with each egg weighing around 50-55 g.

Currently, the price of Muscovy ducklings sold as breeding stock ranges from 10,000 to 20,000 VND per duckling. Free-range Muscovy ducks usually have prices ranging from 150,000 to 170,000 VND per duck, depending on market conditions.

Muscovy duck meat, popularly known as “royal duck,” is highly valued due to its exceptional quality and meticulous breeding practices. Its elevated price reflects the specialized care and conscientious selection process undertaken to ensure premium quality. While normal male ducks typically range from 90,000 to 120,000 VND per kilogram, the price for “royal ducks” is three times higher.
Our premium quality ducks, known as “Royal Ducks”, are priced at approximately 350,000 VND/kg for ducks weighing from 3 to 3.5 kg. Ducks weighing 4 kg or more have a price beyond 400,000 VND/kg.
