Mai Thu Huyen – Vu Tuan Viet
Acclaimed actress Mai Thu Huyen recently shared exciting news about her and Vu Tuan Viet’s on-screen mother-son duo, which garnered a record-breaking 1.5 million views. This marks Huyen’s highest viewership to date. After a decade-long hiatus from television, Huyen made a special comeback, reuniting with her former on-screen love interest, Vu Tuan Viet.

In their previous collaboration, the pair portrayed lovers in the film Lac Gioi. However, in their latest project, they take on the roles of mother and son.
A decade ago, when Mai Thu Huyen was the executive producer of Lac Gioi, she cast Vu Tuan Viet as the male lead, who would be “courting” her character. At the time, Tuan Viet was the runner-up of Next Top Model, and this film marked his acting debut. In reality, Mai Thu Huyen is only 13 years older than her co-star. However, in their recent film, Mat Troi Lanh, they portray mother and son, which came as a shock even to the actress herself.
In their previous film, Tuan Viet played a suitor, but now he portrays the son of “mother” Mai Thu Huyen.
Mai Thu Huyen transforms into Ba Thuy, the calculating chairwoman of Cao Nguyen Xanh Corporation in the film. She hides her true nature behind an amiable facade. Ba Thuy has a son named Tuan Tran (Vu Tuan Viet).
Tuan Viet’s character’s bearded appearance in the film drew criticism for appearing older than his on-screen mother. His co-star, Mai Thu Huyen, jokingly remarked: “You look more like my lover than my son.” To match her on-screen son’s appearance, the actress had to adopt a more mature look, both in hairstyle and wardrobe. This was her biggest challenge in the film.
Meanwhile, Tuan Viet’s character’s appearance was a carry-over from another project he was working on, and the audience disapproved of the age gap between the mother and son on-screen.
NSUT Thai Son – Ngoc Huyen
The recently concluded film Cha Toi, Nguoi O Lai tugged at the heartstrings of viewers with its story of a loving father, played by NSUT Thai Son. In the film, he portrayed a compassionate father to two sons, despite one of them not being his biological child. Ngoc Huyen took on the role of An, the daughter of Mr. Binh (Thai Son).

An’s bubbly and carefree nature contrasted with her father’s calm and reserved demeanor. Viewers praised the duo for their natural portrayal of a father-daughter relationship.
In reality, Thai Son is 15 years older than Ngoc Huyen. To portray the father convincingly, he had to don a bearded look and dress maturely, while Ngoc Huyen’s youthful appearance was highlighted.
In a previous television film, Vui Len Nao Anh Em Oi, the two actors played lovers. In this film, Thai Son sported a youthful look with round-framed glasses and a quirky hairstyle to match his character’s personality.

Manh Truong – Thuy Anh
In the film Ca Mot Doi An Oan, Manh Truong and Thuy Anh portrayed father and daughter. Truong played the son of NSUT My Uyen, while Thuy Anh played his stepdaughter. Complications arose when Thuy Anh’s character, Tu, impersonated Manh Truong’s long-lost daughter, Nguyen An. When the truth was revealed, Tu was expelled from the family.

Following this project, the pair collaborated again in the film Tinh Yeu va Tham Vong.
However, their most recent reunion on screen took an intriguing turn as they swapped roles, portraying lovers in the film Dung Noi Khi Yeu. Their on-screen chemistry as Ly and Quy received high praise from viewers. While Quy (Manh Truong) embodied the quintessential CEO and heartthrob, Ly (Thuy Anh) was a charming baker.
Their reunion saw them portray lovers.
Thuy Anh shared that she cried a lot during the final days of filming, deeply moved by her character, even though they had a happy ending. She expressed gratitude to her co-star, Manh Truong, for his support and empathy, which elevated their on-screen connection.
Just eight months after the conclusion of Dung Noi Khi Yeu, Thuy Anh and Manh Truong reunited once more for the film Chung Ta Cua 8 Nam Sau.
Minh Huong – NSND Manh Cuong
In the television series Nhat Ky Vang Anh, veteran actor NSND Manh Cuong portrayed the father of Minh Vuong (who played Vang Anh). Fast forward 15 years, and the duo reunited as lovers in the film 11 Thang 5 Ngay.

In the film, Minh Huong played Thu, the lover of Mr. Vinh (NSND Manh Cuong), who was also the late homeroom teacher of his child. Their significant age difference was met with strong opposition from Tuệ Nhi.
Given the age gap between Thu and her lover in the film, Minh Huong did not have to adopt an older appearance for the role.
