Here are seven things you should get rid of from your home during the Ghost Month, and it’s best to do so before the full moon on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month to invite more positive energy.
1. Old, torn, or unused clothing
Many people tend to hold on to old clothes, thinking they might need them someday. However, hoarding too many unworn clothes, especially those that are torn or faded or hold sad memories, can make your space feel cramped and stagnant, attracting negative energy.
In feng shui, old clothes represent the past, and if you’re not ready to let go of the past, you may struggle to embrace new, positive things. Before the full moon, go through your wardrobe and be bold in discarding or donating items you haven’t worn in over a year.

Old, torn, or unused clothing can weigh you down and prevent you from moving forward. By getting rid of these items, you create space for new opportunities and positive energy to enter your life.
2. Broken or damaged items
A cracked mirror, a broken cup, chipped plates, or non-functioning electronics are all things that should not remain in your home, especially during the seventh lunar month. In folk belief, broken items signify separation, breakage, and bad luck.
Additionally, allowing broken items to occupy space in your home can cause the energy to become stagnant and blocked. Take this opportunity to inspect all your belongings and dispose of anything that is no longer usable.
3. Dead plants and wilted flowers
Green plants symbolize life and fresh energy. If you allow dead or wilted plants and flowers to remain in your home, you are unintentionally spreading negative energy throughout your living space.
Before the full moon, check all your potted plants and flower vases. Dispose of any dead plants, water-soaked plants, or wilted flowers immediately. If possible, replace them with new, vibrant plants to attract wealth and prosperity.
4. Accumulated trash and items of unknown origin
It’s common for people to leave small pieces of trash, paper scraps, plastic bags, or knick-knacks lying around, intending to throw them away later. Over time, these items accumulate and make your space feel cluttered and stuffy, creating an environment conducive to negative energy.
Items of unknown origin, such as found objects or gifts from unknown senders, can carry unfamiliar energy and disrupt the feng shui of your home during the seventh lunar month. It’s best to discard or find a new home for these items.
5. Worn-out shoes and hats
Shoes symbolize your path in life and your ability to move forward. Worn-out, broken, or moldy shoes not only look unsightly but also represent obstacles and difficulties in your life journey.
Similarly, old and torn hats carry a similar negative connotation. Before the full moon, go through your shoe and hat collection and discard any items that are no longer usable.
6. Old calendars and gloomy artwork
Old calendars can carry the energy of the “past not yet released.” Similarly, gloomy artwork, dark colors, and images of ghosts, demons, or war should be removed during the Ghost Month to avoid attracting negative spiritual energy.
Instead, decorate your home with bright and vibrant artwork, images of nature, or feng shui symbols that bring good luck and prosperity.
7. Items associated with sad memories
If you have items in your home that are associated with sad memories, such as belongings of a deceased person, gifts from a past relationship, or souvenirs from an unfortunate trip, now is the time to let them go.
Holding on to these items can keep you emotionally tied to the past and affect the energy in your living space. Consider getting rid of them as a way to cleanse your mind and invite more positive experiences into your life.
