It may sound unusual, as rice is a favorite food for mice. But, when combined with a few other ingredients, you can create a perfect trap to get rid of mice instead of using the usual traps and poisons.
How to get rid of mice with rice
Preparation:
– Rice: a small handful
– Cement: 1 teaspoon, you can ask for a small amount from a construction site
– Sesame oil: 1 teaspoon
– A few disposable bowls or any containers you have at home
Instructions:
– Step 1: Roast the rice evenly until it turns golden and fragrant. Then, pour it into a bowl or plastic container.
– Step 2: Add 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and 1 teaspoon of cement to the roasted rice, and mix well.
– Step 3: Divide this mixture into several portions and place them in disposable bowls. Put these bowls in places where mice frequently run through, such as in the kitchen, next to cabinets, under beds, etc.
This method is simple but effective in eliminating a whole mouse infestation. The reason it works is that the aroma of roasted rice and sesame oil attracts the mice, and when they consume the mixture, the cement absorbs the water in their intestines and hardens, causing discomfort, bloating, loss of appetite, and eventually death.
Instead of roasted rice, you can also use leftover cooked rice or other types of flour (such as wheat flour, corn flour, etc.) for this method.
Some other simple yet effective mouse trap methods
– Using laundry detergent
Mix laundry detergent, pepper, and leftover cooked rice together and place it where mice often appear. Just the smell of this mixture will scare the mice away, making them want to leave your house immediately.
Alternatively, you can dissolve laundry detergent and a teaspoon of coffee powder in water and place the solution in areas where mice frequent. Mice dislike this smell and will not dare to come near your house.
– Using vinegar
Mice hate the smell of vinegar, so you can use it to repel these rodents. Simply soak cotton balls in white vinegar and place them in areas where mice are often seen. This will effectively keep the mice away.
Remember to replace the cotton balls when they dry out and no longer smell of vinegar.
– Using chili powder
There are two ways to use chili powder to repel mice. First, you can sprinkle it around the house or in areas where mice frequently pass through.
The second method is to mix chili powder with cooking oil in a 2:1 ratio, add a few drops of any cleaning agent, and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray this solution in places where mice often appear to prevent them from entering your house.
Additionally, you should seal up any holes or crevices, add mouse-proof mesh to windows and doors, and fill in any holes that show signs of being dug by mice with a mixture of cement and water. It’s also important to keep your house clean and tidy, without any places for mice to hide, and to collect and dispose of garbage daily to maintain hygiene.
