It is important to note that the grapefruit peels should not be placed directly into the dishwasher. Instead, Ms. Nhung recommends blending the peels and turning them into ice cubes. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Peel the grapefruit and separate the outer peel from the white pith. Rinse the peels and cut them into small pieces, approximately three fingers in length.

Step 2: Blend the peels of one grapefruit with 200ml of water in a blender. Blend until the peels are completely broken down and turned into a liquid. This ensures maximum fragrance and prevents any peel residue from clogging the dishwasher’s filter.

Step 3: Pour the blended mixture into an ice cube tray (preferably a flexible silicone tray for easier removal). Place the tray in the freezer. After a night, you will have fragrant ice cubes infused with grapefruit essential oil.

Step 4: Store the grapefruit essential oil ice cubes in an airtight container and keep them in the freezer.

Step 5: Each time you run the dishwasher, place one of these ice cubes in the compartment for spoons, forks, and chopsticks.

“For years, my family has been washing dishes with biodegradable detergent (along with salt and organic rinse aid) and adding one of these grapefruit ice cubes to the dishwasher. As a result, our dishes always come out sparkling clean and safe, thanks to the all-natural solution,” shared Ms. Phuong Nhung.
