1. Remove Hard Water Stains from Faucets, Sinks, and Tubs
Hard water stains on faucets and sinks can be challenging to clean with just water and regular detergent. However, potato peels can come to the rescue! Simply wash the potato peel to remove any dirt, then put it in a pot of water and bring it to a boil.
Once the water starts boiling, add 1-2 spoons of dish soap or laundry detergent, along with a spoonful of salt. Turn off the heat and let the solution cool down. Use this solution to scrub the faucets, sinks, and tubs, and then rinse with clean water. The hard water stains will be gone!
Alternatively, you can directly rub the potato peel on stainless steel faucets, let it sit for about 3 minutes, and then wipe it off with a clean cloth to remove the stains.
2. Remove Rust Stains
Potato peels can also help remove rust stains. Boil some potato peels and soak the rusted items for 30 minutes to an hour. Then, gently scrub the items, and the rust stains will disappear.
Another method is to soak potato peels in a solution of dish soap and water for 10-15 minutes. Remove the peels and place them on the rusted area of the item. Let it sit for a few hours, then scrub the area with the peel and wipe it clean with a cloth.
Note that this method is more suitable for items with light rust. Instead of dish soap, you can also use a mixture of baking soda and water with the potato peel.
3. Clean the Build-Up in Your Kettle
Over time, kettles can develop a build-up of residue, which can be harmful to your health. To clean this build-up, use potato peels! Wash the peels and put them in the kettle with water, then bring it to a boil.
Let the solution sit for about 3-5 minutes after it boils, then pour out the water and peels. Use a clean cloth to wipe the kettle, and rinse it with clean water to remove any remaining residue. It is recommended to do this once or twice a week for effective cleaning.
4. Effectively Remove Grease
The water used to boil potato peels can also help soften and remove grease from dishes and the kitchen area. Soak dirty dishes in this water for 15-20 minutes, then scrub them with a dishwashing sponge and rinse with clean water.
Additionally, you can pour the potato peel water into a spray bottle and spritz it onto your kitchen surfaces and walls. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then wipe it down. The grease and grime will be gone! This is because potato peels contain compounds that effectively break down and remove grease and dirt.
