Nowadays, a washing machine is an essential home appliance in most households. Its presence has significantly improved our quality of life by saving us time and effort.
However, it is important to remember that washing machines also require regular cleaning. If neglected, our clothes may end up dirtier than before, covered in dust, and even bacteria. Wearing clothes washed in a dirty machine can cause itchiness and discomfort. Today, I will share a useful tip on how to keep your washing machine clean.
Inside your washing machine, there is usually a filter box located on the inner wall, which you will see when you open the lid. This filter box needs to be disassembled for cleaning.
Upon disassembling, you will find a mesh bag inside the filter box, which is responsible for trapping lint and dust from your laundry. If left unchecked, the filter box will become less effective, and the accumulated dirt can reattach to your clothes, leaving unsightly stains.
Cleaning the filter box is straightforward. Simply remove the mesh bag, discard the accumulated dirt, and use a brush to scrub it clean. Once it is sparkling clean, reinstall it back into the washing machine.
While many people remember to clean this filter regularly, there is a small “compartment” at the bottom of the washing machine that often goes unnoticed.
If you look closely, you will find a protruding part at the base of the machine with a small plastic cap in the center. Using a sharp object like a knife or scissors, carefully pry open this cap.
Underneath the cap, you will find a screw. Use a screwdriver to remove it, and then lift the base of the washing machine outward.
When you remove the base, you will likely be greeted by a layer of grime and an unpleasant odor. It is hard to imagine that a washing machine in such a state could effectively clean our clothes.
To address this issue, take out the base and give it a good rinse under the tap. For the inner part of the base, use a cloth to wipe it clean. Once everything is sparkling clean, reinstall the base back into the washing machine.
It is recommended to clean these parts at least once a month. Additionally, don’t forget to wipe down the exterior of your washing machine, the detergent tray, and the rubber seal on the door.
Moreover, it is advisable to deep clean the interior of your washing machine twice a year. You can either call a professional or do it yourself by purchasing a washing machine cleaning tablet and running it through a cleaning cycle. Alternatively, a mixture of vinegar and baking soda can also effectively clean your washing machine.
