However, the living room is not just about the TV. I advise that no matter how wealthy or how many possessions you have, you should never place these four things next to your television. This is not superstition; there are valid reasons behind it.
1. Do not place an electric kettle near the TV
Since there are usually multiple electrical outlets on top of the TV console, many people tend to plug in and use their electric kettles here. This way, whenever you need to boil water for tea, it’s very convenient.
However, I advise against doing this next to your TV. There are often many electrical wires and connections near the TV. If you frequently boil water here and accidentally spill or leak water, it could damage the electrical appliances, including your TV.
Sometimes, when we overfill the kettle, water might spill out and cause a short circuit, leading to electrical shocks. Therefore, it’s better to boil water in a safer location, rather than prioritizing convenience.
2. Do not cover the TV with a dust cloth
Many families have this habit: they cover the TV with a dust cloth after each use to prevent dust from settling on the screen. While this may reduce cleaning time, I advise against doing so.
Covering the TV with a dust cloth can have unintended consequences. The TV itself is an electrical appliance, and it generates a lot of heat when turned on. It needs time to cool down; otherwise, the internal components could be damaged, affecting the lifespan of the appliance.
Moreover, dust cloths are often flammable and could cause a fire hazard if not careful. Therefore, it’s best not to cover your TV with a dust cloth.
3. Do not place potted plants near the TV
To make the living room more aesthetically pleasing, many people place potted plants in this space. However, you should not place potted plants near the TV.
The reason is that plants require frequent watering to stay healthy, and placing them next to the TV means the surrounding environment will become damp. Electrical appliances do not fare well in humid conditions, and prolonged exposure could impact the lifespan of your TV.
Additionally, when the TV is operating, it emits heat and a type of radiation. While this radiation is not harmful to humans, it can be detrimental to plants, damaging their cells and causing them to wither and turn yellow.
4. Do not place the router next to the TV
Many families like to place their router right next to the TV. If you do this, your internet speed at home will definitely decrease and may even be severely affected.
Both the TV and the router have their own electromagnetic fields. The router emits signals, and the TV receives signals. When you place them side by side, they interfere with each other’s signals, impacting your user experience.
It’s best to place the router in a separate area without any obstacles or interferences around it.
