The star fruit tree holds a special memory for Cat Tuong, as it was planted when her daughter, Nauy, was in 6th or 7th grade. Now, Nauy has graduated from university and started working. Cat Tuong has nurtured this tree for over a decade, moving it with her from one home to another before finally settling it in her current garden.
In addition to the star fruit and apple trees, Cat Tuong’s garden boasts a variety of other fruits and vegetables, including unripe custard apples, papayas that she has previously harvested, pineapples that will be ready for her housewarming ceremony, and a mai tree that cannot be relocated.
While some trees, like the small kumquat trees, can be relocated, others, like the delicious grapefruit tree, have sadly withered away, leaving only one remaining.
Cat Tuong’s garden also includes vegetables like water spinach, which can be harvested throughout the season. She expresses her hope that the new occupants of her home will continue to care for her beloved garden, saying, “I hope whoever moves in will continue to love my garden, just as I have.”
