Breast milk fruit
Breast milk fruit is one of the specialty fruits of Vietnam. Our country is also one of the few nations that export this delicious fruit.
Within Vietnam, we have numerous varieties of breast milk fruit, such as “Lò Rèn” (meaning “forge”), purple-brown, and golden breast milk fruit. Among these, the Lò Rèn variety is the most cultivated due to its thin, shiny, and aesthetically pleasing peel. It also boasts an abundance of sweet and fragrant flesh, making it a favorite among many.
Watermelon
Watermelon is not an exclusive fruit like breast milk fruit, but Vietnam is renowned for its watermelon cultivation. Watermelons are grown throughout the country, from the north to the south. Famous watermelon-growing regions include Hai Duong, Quang Nam, Can Tho, and Kieng Giang. Vietnamese watermelons are even exported internationally.
Watermelons are readily available in local markets and supermarkets, offering a range of varieties, including long, round, and seedless types. Domestic watermelons are also very affordable.
Dragon fruit
Vietnam’s dragon fruit production not only meets domestic demand but also caters to international markets. Currently, the white-fleshed and red-fleshed dragon fruit varieties are commonly grown in provinces such as Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Tien Giang, and Long An.
Grapefruit
Grapefruit is another fruit that we don’t need to import. Vietnam boasts a diverse range of grapefruit varieties, including well-known types such as “Nam Roi” grapefruit, green-skinned grapefruit, Dien grapefruit, Van Luan red grapefruit, and Doan Hung grapefruit. Among these, Nam Roi and green-skinned grapefruit are widely cultivated in the Mekong Delta provinces to meet domestic demand and for export.
Lychee
Vietnamese lychees are not only sold domestically but also exported to numerous international markets. During lychee season, locals can indulge in this delicious fruit at reasonable prices.
Bac Giang and Hai Duong are renowned lychee-growing regions in Vietnam, boasting significant lychee yields. The production is sufficient to meet domestic demand and facilitate exports.
Banana
Bananas are also abundantly grown in various provinces and cities across Vietnam. Well-known banana varieties in the country include the pink banana, sap banana, su banana, and ng vu (royal banana).
Vietnam’s banana production is substantial, meeting the consumption needs of its citizens and exporting large quantities abroad. Bananas are also incredibly affordable.
Rambutan
Rambutan is a common fruit in Vietnam, widely cultivated across the country. It is a specialty fruit of Tien Giang province, where the soil and climatic conditions are ideal for its growth. The “Mac Bac” (Sa pô chê Mac Bac) variety of rambutan is notable for bearing fruit almost year-round.
