After a period of use, every phone will slow down significantly. Their performance will not be the same as it used to be. This greatly affects the user experience. Many people feel frustrated when they have to wait too long for their smartphones to run apps, load web pages, or update software.

Instead of buying a new phone or spending money on hardware replacement, users only need to make a simple setting change to improve the speed on their smartphones.

According to technology expert Krizza Buendia from the Euphoric View website, refreshing background apps is a useful feature that allows the content in apps that run in the background to be continuously updated even when the user is using the phone. This feature allows them to switch between apps easily without having to wait for a reload.

“However, it will drain the battery, consume system resources, and slow down the phone’s performance,” the expert said. To fix this issue, users only need to turn off the auto-refresh app setting.

“After that, you will notice a significant improvement in battery life and performance,” Buendia said. These apps will still run in the background but only update the content when the user reopens the app instead of constantly refreshing.

For iPhone users, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh, then scroll down to find the apps you want to turn off this feature for.

For Android smartphone users, go to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile data usage. Here, select and find the app you want to disable background data refresh for.

Buendia also noted that users should regularly check the apps installed on their iPhones and uninstall unused apps to free up storage space and system resources.

Next, after disabling background app refresh, users should pay attention to the apps that are open on their phones.

“If you open multiple tabs simultaneously on a computer, you will easily notice that the waiting time for each task will be prolonged. This also applies to smartphones. If you use too many apps at the same time, the phone’s memory will fill up, causing the device to respond slower,” developer Abdul Saboor at The Stock Dork shared.

According to him, deleting unnecessary apps running in the background will help the smartphone run faster. Users just need to swipe from the bottom of the screen to the top and pause for a few seconds in the middle of the screen to enter multitasking. Here, swipe up on the app tabs to delete them if they are not being used.
