Free-range eggs are highly favored by many people for their high nutritional value and delicious taste. However, there are many types of eggs available on the market, and some sellers who want to sell at a higher price often provide incorrect information about the origin of the eggs. So how can you differentiate between these types of eggs?

Method 1: A toothpick

All you need is a toothpick, it’s simple and practical. Just break the eggshell and stick the toothpick on the yolk.

If it’s a free-range chicken egg, the toothpick will stay securely in the yolk, while if it’s an industrially farmed egg, the toothpick will tip over and be difficult to keep straight. This is because the yolk of free-range eggs has a stickier texture and firmer structure, which makes it harder for the toothpick to tip over. On the other hand, regular eggs have more egg white and a looser yolk, making them easier to spread.

Method 2: Color observation

In addition, whether it’s free-range eggs or not can also be observed from the color of the yolk. If the yolk of free-range eggs is darker orange, while the yolk of regular eggs is pale yellow, the difference is quite significant.

Method 3: Spreadability

When eating eggs, you need to stir them evenly to see if they are genuine free-range eggs.

The yolk of regular eggs is small and watery, so it will spread easily after stirring. Free-range eggs, on the other hand, have more and denser yolks, making them harder to mix.

Method 4: Shape observation

When buying eggs, you can first observe the shape of the eggs. Free-range eggs in general have a relatively small size, a pointed end and a rounded end, and the eggshell is light white. Regular eggs are larger in size, with less distinct differences between the two ends of the egg, and a larger weight.

Tips for choosing fresh and delicious eggs

1. Air chamber check

Whether it’s free-range or regular eggs, the most important thing is to choose fresh eggs. So, how can you tell if an egg has been stored for a long time? Just take out your phone and shine a light on it.

How to do it: Turn on the flashlight function of your mobile phone and shine it on the egg. If you see a small air chamber, the yolk is stationary, the transparent egg white has a light orange and pink color, the yolk is round and centered, it means the egg is fresh and new. On the other hand, old eggs are usually red with many veins, and there are lines surrounding the air chamber.

2. Shake test

In addition, when buying eggs, you can also shake the eggs to check their freshness. If you hear a sound, it means the egg is old and has been stored for a long time. If you can feel the movement without listening, it means the egg is bad or the chicken is in the process of incubation…

3. Float test

Another method is to put the eggs in water, just a quick look will tell you if they are still fresh or not. If the egg sinks after being placed in water, it means the egg is fresh, if the egg floats, it means the egg may have gone bad.
