Home appliances are essential items that are indispensable in modern households. However, due to their specific functions and characteristics, some home appliances are often neglected and forgotten during the “summer break,” such as water heaters, heaters, and bathroom heaters.
This neglect can cause these appliances to deteriorate quickly, lose productivity, and even become unusable when they are needed in the winter, resulting in economic losses, health risks, and endangering the lives of users. So, how should home appliances be stored during the summer to ensure their proper maintenance, safety, and longevity?
Water Heater
Water heaters are essential in bathrooms and are used frequently. From the cool autumn to the freezing winter or the chilly spring, a water heater provides warm water to protect human health. However, during the summer, they are often forgotten because people do not have a need for them.
Due to the specific installation location (ceiling) and the solid structure in the bathroom, it is not feasible to remove and store water heaters when they are not in use. Therefore, from the beginning of the installation, water heaters should be installed correctly, at least 2m above the bathroom floor. The installation location should always be dry and well-ventilated to eliminate factors that cause quick deterioration. Additionally, it is necessary to install a grounding wire for the water heater to ensure safety in case of electrical leakage.
When not in use for a long time, the power supply to the water heater should be completely cut off, such as turning off the circuit breaker or removing the plug. If the heater is exposed, it can be wrapped in plastic to prevent dust or bathroom moisture from sticking, which may cause damage. However, remember to unwrap it when using it again.
Especially, after a long “summer break,” before reusing the water heater, we need to:
– Check the water path, electrical wiring, anti-shock device, and showerhead carefully before use.
– Clean the water heater and remove any residue or dirt inside (it is best to hire a professional to do this).
– If any abnormal signs are detected, immediately stop using it and bring it to a reputable maintenance center for guidance.
Bathroom Heater Lights
Bathroom heater lights are extremely useful devices in the winter but have fewer opportunities to operate in the hot summer. Therefore, you need to prepare to properly store the heater lights during the summer so that next winter, they will work efficiently without the need for repairs.
Do not leave the unused heater lights in the bathroom for many months
Unused bathroom heater lights, like other appliances, will gradually deteriorate, corrode, and significantly lose their operating efficiency. Especially when the heater lights are usually placed in the bathroom – where there are many harmful factors for electrical equipment, such as steam, high temperature, and airborne dirt with poor circulation.
Therefore, except for ceiling-mounted bathroom lights (which are protected by the ceiling), you should not store unused bathroom heater lights in the bathroom for several months.
Steps to store bathroom heater lights during the summer
Step 1: Cut off the power and remove the heater light from the bracket or rack.
Step 2: Clean the heater light thoroughly, let it dry, and reinstall it as before.
Step 3: Store the heater light in its original box with protective bubble wrap and paper to prevent damage and use fabric to further shield it from dust. If possible, use a moisture-proof bag.
Step 4: Place the heater light box in a storage area or a moisture-proof box, avoiding damp and dusty places, such as under the bed. It is also important not to place it too close to the wall or in a corner, especially on humid days, as this can lead to excessive moisture accumulation on the wall.
For ceiling-mounted bathroom heater lights, there is no need to remove and store them. What you need to do is to maintain and clean the heater light regularly, about once every three months.
Heater Fans
Heater fans, like bathroom heater lights, provide heating for rooms but are more portable. They are often placed in living rooms, bedrooms, study rooms, or areas that require immediate heating.
During the summer, when not in use for an extended period, the best way to store heater fans is to keep them in their original packaging. If the original box is not available, you can use other cardboard, large plastic bags, bubble wrap, and tape to package them, and then cover them with tarpaulin to prevent dust accumulation. If possible, use a moisture-proof bag as well.
Before packaging, clean and maintain the heater fan, such as wiping the external surface, removing dust from the fan blades, and applying lubricating oil to the fan shaft.
Once packaged, place the heater fan in a storage area, preferably elevated about 1m above the floor, and away from the wall to avoid moisture absorption. Choose a storage location that is free from pests, such as mice or cockroaches, and as insect-free as possible.
