When recording videos

With the release of iOS 11, Apple made the switch to the new High Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format for videos, which is a great move for storage on your iPhone as the format uses about half the space of the previous video format. However, to save the most space possible, you’ll want to adjust your video frame rate settings so that your videos will record at the most efficient file size possible.

From your home screen, go to Settings > Photos & Camera > Record Video > Then choose the appropriate resolution for your needs; the lower the resolution, the smaller the file size.

For videos you’ve already recorded

For videos that you’ve already taken, you’ll be using a third-party app called Telegram to reduce the video file size. This app allows you to select the quality of a video before sending it, which you can use as a way to compress the file. Simply select the video you want to compress and send it to yourself; then save the compressed version and delete the uncompressed video from your phone to save storage space in the difference between file sizes.
