Nowadays, parents who can afford it often enroll their children in international schools from kindergarten and primary levels to ensure better English language exposure and learning.

Single father and entrepreneur Do Quang Vinh, husband of Miss Vietnam 2016 Do My Linh, strongly believes in this approach. As a result, his twin children, Gau and Tho, are currently attending a prestigious international school in Hanoi.

Single father Do Quang Vinh takes his twins to their new school for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Enrolling both children in Grade 1 at this school comes at a significant cost for the Deputy CEO of the bank, amounting to over 700 million VND per child per year. This includes tuition fees of more than 630 million VND and additional fees exceeding 75 million VND for application and enrollment, along with various other charges.

While subsequent years won’t require application fees, other expenses such as uniforms, transportation, and meals will still apply.

Thanks to their father’s substantial investment in their education, Miss Do My Linh’s children will receive the best education at this international school.

Evidence of this is the twins’ impressive English proficiency at just six years old, rivaling that of native speakers. A recent video shared by their father highlights this.

Recently, the husband of Miss Do My Linh shared a short clip of their time together after a family outing. During the car ride, the three engaged in English conversation, with Do Quang Vinh quizzing his children about their recent visit to the aquarium.

Gau and Tho confidently responded in English, earning praise from many.

When asked, “Ok, where did you go today?”

Both replied in unison: “I went to the aquarium.”

Father tests his children’s English skills.

The children respond fluently, like native speakers.

Father Quang Vinh continued: “And then what did you see there?”

Gau and Tho began recounting: “I saw Nemo. I saw a shark. I saw a turtle and fed it. I saw a penguin…”

They continued: “I saw many people. I saw many trees. And I saw some whales…”

Many praised Bầu Hiển’s grandchildren:

– Their English is truly impressive.

– So adorable, they speak so well.

– Mr. Vinh’s way of communicating and teaching is excellent.

– Parents should learn this method to make English learning fun for their children.

Their mother actively supports Do Quang Vinh in raising the twins.

The twins have attended international schools since kindergarten.

Their impressive academic achievements make their father proud.

Do Quang Vinh’s daughter confidently participates in school activities.

Both children are affectionate and loving towards their father.

At the first-grade level, children are just beginning to learn a new language, so English should be taught gently, enjoyably, and in a way that aligns with their natural learning abilities. With proper guidance, children can not only master basic vocabulary and grammar but also gain confidence in daily communication.

Here are 6 effective ways to help first-graders learn English, especially in speaking skills:

1. Create an English-immersive environment in daily life

Young children learn languages best through repetition and frequent exposure. Parents can play English nursery rhymes, watch bilingual cartoons, or simply use short phrases like “Good morning,” “Let’s eat,” and “Thank you.” This helps children become familiar with sounds, intonation, and natural reflexes.

2. Learn through games and movement

For first-graders, “learning through play” is the most effective method. Games like “Simon says,” “Find the color,” and “What’s this?” allow children to move while memorizing vocabulary and sentence structures. When children enjoy themselves, learning English becomes a pleasure rather than a burden.

3. Practice speaking in real-life situations

Parents or teachers should create simple scenarios for children to practice, such as role-playing shopping (“Can I have an apple?”), greeting (“Hello! How are you?”), or introducing themselves. Practicing in real contexts helps children understand sentence usage, pronounce clearly, and communicate naturally.

4. Read English comic books and picture books

Books with vivid illustrations and simple words help children learn while stimulating their imagination. Parents should read with their children, point to pictures, and ask questions like “What color is it?” or “Who is this?” to encourage speaking.

5. Praise and encourage at the right moments

Encouragement from parents and teachers is a powerful motivator for children to gain confidence in speaking English. Even if a child makes mistakes or has imperfect pronunciation, praise their effort first, then gently correct them. This helps children feel unafraid of mistakes and more willing to speak.

6. Encourage learning with peers or experienced tutors

Children learn faster when they study with friends, as they compete and imitate each other. If possible, parents can enroll their children in English conversation classes tailored for primary school students, where teachers can engage and develop their speaking skills naturally.

Helping first-graders excel in English involves not only teaching methods but also the attitude of adults: patience, encouragement, and support. When children feel happy, safe, and heard, English becomes a cherished companion in their growth journey.
