Use a sink cabinet

The first suggestion to make the bathroom more convenient and smart is to install a sink cabinet.

Many homeowners overlook or only use small cabinets with limited space for their belongings.

However, Adam Molsey, Director of the luxury bathroom design company Thomas Crapper, said that using a large sink cabinet would help optimize storage space while still making the bathroom luxurious and beautiful.

This piece of furniture is designed with a sink on top and a cabinet underneath for storage.

Avoid placing cabinets too high

In addition to expanding storage space, the location of the cabinet is also important.

Many people optimize bathroom space by installing shelves and cabinets in empty areas of the room, such as the wall.

However, homeowners will have difficulty and inconvenience in retrieving their belongings if the cabinet is hung too high to make use of the empty space on the wall.

“You should install cabinets and mirrors according to your own height, not the installer’s,” Molsey shared.

Arrange items properly

Another issue to pay attention to when storing items in the bathroom is arranging them in the cabinet.

Juliette Thomas, Director of the luxury furniture company Juliettes Interiors, suggests that you should divide the items into separate groups based on their purpose, such as skincare products, makeup, or shower products.

“You should only leave essential items that you use daily on the countertop,” she added.

This action helps to make the bathroom more organized, airy, and easy to find items.

Moreover, because the shower area is a high humidity area, storing items incorrectly in the bathroom can affect the quality of the products. For example, razors can rust, and shower bombs can expand when kept in this space.

Make use of “dead space”

Not everyone has a spacious bathroom. In case your bathroom has a small area, any empty space in the room can be useful.

According to Ann Marie Cousins, founder of the interior design company AMC Design, if your bathroom does not have enough space to place a sink cabinet or a vanity table, try placing a shelf cabinet in the empty space above the toilet or bathtub.

Frequently asked questions

Utilize storage solutions such as shelves, cabinets, and baskets to maximize space. Consider installing floating shelves or narrow cabinets in tight areas to provide extra storage without taking up floor space. Use labeled baskets or containers to organize items and utilize vertical space by hanging towels or installing wall-mounted dispensers for items like soap or toothpaste.

Get creative with storage solutions by thinking beyond traditional cabinets. Try installing a towel rack on the back of the door, using suction cups or command hooks to hang items like loofahs or hair tools, and utilizing over-the-toilet storage units or ladder shelves to provide extra space for towels or toiletries.

Opt for a neutral color palette and light, bright colors to create the illusion of a larger space. Ensure there is adequate lighting, and consider adding a large mirror to reflect light and make the room feel more open. Keep countertops and surfaces clear by storing items in cabinets or using organizers, and regularly declutter to remove any unnecessary items.

Divide your items into categories and assign a specific place for each category. For example, allocate a basket for hair tools, a drawer for cosmetics, and a cabinet for extra towels. Utilize under-sink storage by adding organizers or installing a curtain to hide items. Also, consider using multi-purpose products, such as a shower caddy that can also store shaving supplies or a soap dish that doubles as a jewelry holder.

Add soft textiles and decor to create a cozy atmosphere. Include rugs, shower curtains, and matching towels in complementary colors or patterns. Bring in natural elements like plants or flowers to add a touch of nature and improve air quality. Also, consider adding some artwork or decorative items that reflect your personal style.
