We are all familiar with durians. Every year when durian season comes, durian lovers are sure to buy 1 or 2 fruits to indulge in. This fruit is known as the king of fruits because according to Thai legend, a king used durians to conquer the beautiful woman he secretly loved.
When we buy a durian, we usually wait until it is fully ripe before eating it. Sometimes durian is processed into desserts or recently, when durian crepes became popular, people started using durians to make this rich and creamy cake. But perhaps few people think of grilling durians before eating them. It sounds strange but in reality, it is a delicious dish in a fancy restaurant in Singapore.

Like any other food, when durians are grilled, they become extremely fragrant. Durians already have a distinct aroma and when grilled, that aroma becomes even more fragrant and the taste becomes even more delicious. So this durian season, if you want to change the way you enjoy the “king of fruits”, try putting them on the grill and give them a try.
There are 2 ways to grill durians:
– Grill on an open flame: If you have an open flame, you can place the whole durian on the fire without having to cut it open or separate the flesh. While grilling, remember to turn the durian evenly and don’t worry if you see the durian skin getting charred because it doesn’t affect the ripe flesh inside. When it’s hot enough, the durian will crack open on its own and at this point, you can grill for another 5 to 10 minutes and then stop. Carefully remove the durian from the heat, separate the flesh into individual pieces and enjoy, you will taste the wonderful flavor of grilled durians.

– Grill in an oven: If you don’t have an open flame, you can use an oven. In that case, you should separate the durian flesh and place it on a plate covered with aluminum foil and put it in a preheated oven at 150 degrees. Grill the durian at 120 degrees for about 8 to 10 minutes and then it is ready for you to enjoy.
