The relatively cool weather in many northern provinces has given way to sunshine and heat. From today, August 8, Hanoi and its surrounding areas are experiencing another heatwave.
During this hot period, the afternoons become more oppressive due to the sun, high temperatures, and humidity. Today’s noon and afternoon temperatures in Hanoi are expected to reach 41–43°C (actual outdoor heat index), and by the same time tomorrow—predicted to be the peak of this heatwave—temperatures may soar to 44°C. Therefore, people going outdoors should cover themselves from the sun and, if possible, avoid prolonged exposure during peak heat hours (11 am–4 pm).

Moreover, today and tomorrow (August 8–9), Hanoi’s temperature is expected to remain high at 43–44°C for several hours during the day, throughout noon and into the evening. Even at 7 pm, the heat index may still be around 38–39°C (barring unexpected thunderstorms), which can cause discomfort and fatigue.
Neighboring provinces will experience similar temperatures to Hanoi, with minor variations.
This heatwave in the North is expected to last until August 10, making it shorter and less intense than the one at the beginning of the month.
Despite the heat, there is still a chance of thunderstorms in the late afternoons, which could be severe. Therefore, if you are outdoors and notice any signs of an impending storm, it is advisable to seek shelter immediately.
