Salt is not only an indispensable seasoning in meals but also an essential physical component in the human body. While salt is the most common seasoning in our lives, it’s a pity if you only use it for flavoring. In fact, if you put salt in the toilet at home, 9 out of 10 families will find it useful, unfortunately, many people are unaware of this trick.
Instructions: Prepare 200 grams of salt, a large bowl, and a packet of baking soda. Mix the salt and baking soda in the bowl, adding an appropriate amount of water to form a thick paste. Baking soda is an alkaline powder that, when dissolved in water, has a mild corrosive effect. Compared to using water alone, a baking soda solution will help remove dirt more easily.
In the bathroom, the sink is the easiest place to get dirty. I believe many people will encounter this issue: Initially, the newly installed sink is shiny and white, but after some time, it turns yellowish or gets stained by unknown substances. When facing such a problem, don’t blame the manufacturer, as the real culprit is your improper cleaning and maintenance of the sink.
The sink is prone to turning blackish-yellow due to the following reasons: First, it’s caused by dirty water leaving deposits on the surface of the porcelain. Second, during laundry, some dirt accumulates on the sink’s surface. Third, it’s due to the electrochemical corrosion of metallic materials, resulting in rust. As we all use the sink to wash our hands and faces, if it’s not cleaned properly, bacteria and dirt will cling to the towel used for drying, causing harm to our skin and health. Therefore, it’s essential to regularly clean the sink.
Cleaning the sink is actually not difficult. First, dip a brush into the salt mixture mentioned earlier and vigorously scrub the surface of the porcelain and faucet. Salt increases the friction, while baking soda also aids in removing stains, making it easier to clean the sink. After a simple scrub, you’ll notice that some of the stains have already been removed, and the salt in the sink has eliminated the yellowish discoloration. Then, simply rinse away the residue with water.
The scrubbing process is effortless and doesn’t require much effort. Moreover, salt has antibacterial and disinfectant properties. This not only makes the sink cleaner but also ensures better hygiene, and the faucet is less likely to develop new deposits after cleaning.
Next up is toilet cleaning
The toilet is a rather dirty and odorous area, and no one relishes the task of cleaning it. Many would rather wash dishes a thousand times than scrub the toilet once. Especially during the summer, the stench becomes more pronounced, and even a three-layered mask can’t block the smell from reaching your nose. Each time you flush the toilet, it may seem like the water washes away the dirt and germs, but did you know that a scientific study has shown that even after flushing, the number of bacteria on the inner walls of the toilet can be as high as 100,000? Therefore, we must pay attention to keeping the toilet clean.
When cleaning the toilet, sprinkle the cleaning powder directly onto the inner walls of the toilet, especially around the drainage area. Even though you may not see any dirt or stains, there are actually a lot of bacteria and dirt lurking there. Then, use a toilet brush to scrub; it only takes a few strokes to remove the yellowish stains and dirt. This method of cleaning the toilet not only makes it spotlessly clean but also ensures better hygiene—isn’t that fantastic?
After cleaning the sink and toilet, the final remaining issue in the bathroom is the floor drain. Typically, the floor drain in the bathroom tends to be smelly, and it’s also a habitat for small insects. Usually, during April and May, you’ll notice an increase in the number of moths.
Since these moths are covered in fine hair and operate in an environment where pathogens thrive, such as septic tanks and sewers, they carry various bacteria on their bodies. When they come into contact with human objects like toothbrushes and towels, they can transmit these bacteria. Additionally, they lay eggs in human food, leading to parasitic larvae in the human body and causing serious illnesses. Therefore, we must be extremely cautious.
To eliminate the floor drain’s odor and eradicate the moths, we can pour salt, baking soda, and boiling water down the drain. Stir the mixture until it’s dissolved, and then slowly pour it down the floor drain and around the pipes. Salt has antiviral and antibacterial properties, and the hot salt water can kill insect eggs in the pipes. After cleaning the pipes, you’ll notice a significant reduction in the foul odor, and the key benefit is that small insects won’t fly into the drain. Wait for about 10 minutes and then rinse with hot water for even better results. To some extent, the presence of moths can also be considered an indicator of the bathroom’s cleanliness, so you can use this as a gauge to assess the sanitation of your bathroom.
