Medical masks are an all-too-familiar item for everyone. However, this mask has some amazing uses that you may not know about.

Other Uses for Medical Masks

Medical masks can be used to effectively clean the bottom of pots and pans. In our homes, we use various types of cookware with different materials such as aluminum, cast iron, and stainless steel for cooking. Over time, the bottoms of these pots and pans can turn black due to a layer of grime and build-up. This grime is often caused by burnt oil, food residue, and other hard-to-remove substances.

To remove these stubborn stains, some people use steel wool, but it’s not always effective and can be too abrasive. The strong friction caused by steel wool can also damage the surface of your cookware if not used carefully. In this case, a medical mask can be a great alternative to clean the bottom of your pots and pans effectively without causing any scratches. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Add White Vinegar and Baking Soda

First, mix a sufficient amount of baking soda and white vinegar in the bottom of your cast iron pan. The chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar will help soften and loosen the grime, making it easier to remove.

After adding the vinegar and baking soda, let the mixture sit for a few minutes to allow it to work its magic.

2. Add Detergent

After about 15 minutes, pour a suitable amount of dishwashing liquid into the pan. The detergent acts as a lubricant and aids in breaking down grease, making it easier to tackle the grime.

3. Add Salt

Finally, sprinkle a generous amount of salt onto the surface of the pan. The granular nature of salt provides extra friction, making it easier to scrub away the stubborn grime.

4. Prepare the Mask

Following the above steps, it’s now time to prepare the medical mask for the final cleaning step. Simply fold the mask in half, and then fold the sides together and tie it securely. You now have a simple, soft cloth ready for cleaning. The polymer fibers in the mask provide just the right amount of friction to effectively remove grime without damaging the surface of your cookware.
