Napa cabbage is a versatile vegetable, commonly purchased for home cooking. When cleaning the vegetable, we often discard the outer leaves as they tend to be older, less tasty, and more prone to insect damage or rot. However, these discarded leaves can be put to good use by utilizing them to clean greasy stains on range hoods. First, prepare a solution by mixing a spoonful of laundry detergent and white vinegar in a spray bottle filled with water. Laundry detergent is an effective stain remover, and when combined with white vinegar, it can cut through grease with relative ease.
White vinegar, in addition to its culinary uses, is a powerful cleaning agent that can help loosen stubborn grease stains.
Next, fill a spray bottle with an appropriate amount of water to dilute the detergent and vinegar mixture. You can be generous with the water quantity.
Secure the spray bottle’s lid and give it a good shake to ensure the laundry detergent is thoroughly dissolved. Due to its granular and viscous nature, the detergent may take a while to dissolve completely, so a vigorous shake is necessary.
Now, spray the solution onto the range hood, focusing on heavily greased areas. You will notice that upon contact, the solution starts to break down the grease. Let the solution sit for about three minutes, allowing the white vinegar to soften the grease and make it easier to wipe away.
After three minutes, use the Napa cabbage leaves to wipe away the grease. With just a few simple wipes, you’ll be able to remove most of the grease. If the grease on the range hood is particularly thick, you can continue spraying the solution as you wipe it down. The leaves of the Napa cabbage are not only fibrous but also covered in fine hairs. These hairs help prevent fine dust from clogging the leaf’s water pores, making them ideal for cleaning.
Finally, use a clean cloth to wipe away any remaining solution from the surface. Your range hood will be left looking brand new, free of any greasy residue.
Additionally, you can use Napa cabbage leaves directly to clean grease from gas stove burners. The leaves contain enough moisture and coarse fibers to effectively remove grease with just a few wipes.
As you can see, the grease on the stove burner has been significantly reduced after wiping with the cabbage leaves. For light grease stains, you can directly use the leaves to clean them, requiring only a few quick wipes.
From now on, instead of discarding those outer leaves, put them to good use by cleaning greasy surfaces. This method not only keeps your cleaning rags from becoming overly soiled but also saves you money and provides a practical solution.
