1- Prolonging the Freshness of Ginger
Storing Ginger in the Refrigerator
Before placing ginger in the refrigerator for storage, wrap the ginger root tightly in a layer of foil or cloth and place it in a sealed plastic bag in the cool compartment. Alternatively, you can use a sheet of foil to tightly wrap the fresh ginger root and store it in a cool, dry place.
With this method, you can store ginger for an extended period while retaining its aromatic fragrance. If foil is not available, you can use absorbent paper to wrap the ginger thoroughly before placing it in a sealed plastic bag and refrigerating it.
Sand Storage
This method is simple; all you need is a slightly wide jar filled with sand. Bury the ginger in the sand and keep the jar in a cool, dry place. This helps preserve the ginger, keeping it fresh and preventing dehydration.
2 – Pre-Treatment for Ginger Storage
Pulverizing
There are numerous methods to prolong the freshness of ginger. One way is to pulverize it with a small amount of salt, water, and a pinch of sugar. Transfer this mixture into a clean jar, seal it tightly, and store it in the refrigerator. This method allows you to preserve ginger for up to 6 months to a year.
Pickling
For those who adore the aroma of ginger’s essential oil, pickling is an excellent option. Similar to other pickling processes, place the ginger in a jar of vinegar and let it steep for about three weeks. Subsequently, store the pickled ginger in the refrigerator and use it as desired.
Foil Wrapping
Wrap a sheet of foil tightly around the fresh ginger root and store it in a cool, dry place.
