1 What is a Catfish?

What is a Catfish?
Catfish are freshwater fish belonging to the carp family. They have a moderately flat body, a round chest and belly, a short and wide head, and a horizontal, slightly curved mouth. Their dorsal fin is quite high and lacks spines, while their pectoral fins are smaller than their pelvic fins, and their tail fin is deeply forked. Catfish have large scales, and the scales above the pectoral fins and behind the gill covers have black spots. Their intestines are very long, about 20 times the length of their body.
Interestingly, during the spawning season, their bodies undergo noticeable changes. For example, their fins develop red spots, and their bellies and tails turn a pale pink color.
