Differentiating between A95 and A92 gasoline

The numbers 95 and 92 are understood as octane ratings (RON), which are a traditional measure of fuel quality for internal combustion engines based on its detonation resistance or anti-knock properties. The higher the octane rating, the higher the fuel’s ability to resist knocking, and vice versa. This means that if there are any issues that arise from weather conditions, temperature, pressure, etc., A95 gasoline will burn less than A92 gasoline.

Should you fill your car with A95 or A92 gasoline?

The compression-detonation number is known as the RON and is represented on a scale from 0 to 100. The lowest pressure at which gasoline will ignite is 0 RON, and the highest pressure gasoline can withstand is 100 RON.

It is easy to understand why RON95 gasoline can withstand higher pressures than RON92 gasoline. Especially when RON95 gasoline is compressed to a pressure of 95, it can ignite. Meanwhile, RON92 gasoline burns up at a compression of 92; the higher the octane rating, the higher the compression ratio.

Therefore, A95 gasoline is suitable for engines with higher compression ratios. If you fill your car with A92 gasoline, it will not reach the maximum combustion level of a gasoline engine, which will reduce the engine’s efficiency and potentially damage it over time.

On the other hand, filling a RON95 gasoline engine with RON92 gasoline is not suitable because it will not achieve the optimal pressure of RON95 gasoline, leading to wastage.

To put it simply, if your car has a compression ratio greater than or equal to 95, it is best to use A95 gasoline to achieve the highest efficiency. If your car has a compression ratio lower than 95, you should use A92 gasoline.

Specifically, according to experts, since gasoline engines are a forced ignition type, they often try to find any solution to prevent knocking. Therefore, engines with a compression ratio greater than 9.5:1 use RON 95 gasoline, while engines with a compression ratio lower than 9.5:1 use RON 92 gasoline.
