While this may not be the case at every hotel, being cautious is always a good idea.

Whenever we travel or go on business trips, we always choose to stay in motels or hotels. However, nowadays there are some bad people who install hidden cameras in the rooms, recording the private moments of customers to sell or blackmail them.

To avoid such situations, people who have been working in hotels for a long time suggest that you should unplug the TV plug and carefully check the nooks and crannies in the room.

For many people, the TV in the hotel is only a decorative item, they don’t use it or know how to turn it on. But few people know that this is an ideal place for criminals to install hidden cameras.

There are several reasons why criminals choose this location to install hidden cameras.

– First, the TV in the hotel is usually installed opposite the bed, and installing a camera here can capture the scenes on the bed most clearly.

– Second, both the TV and the TV signal decoder have their own infrared source, which is very easy to be confused with the infrared source of recording devices, so users are often not vigilant.

Therefore, the edges of the TV or on the TV signal decoder box are “prime” locations that criminals often choose to install hidden cameras. So, to ensure your privacy, you should unplug the TV plug immediately after checking into the room.

Other locations in the hotel where hidden cameras may be installed

Hidden cameras are very small in size and can appear in many places in the room, not necessarily hidden in the TV. Specifically, hidden cameras can be installed on the smoke detector on the ceiling, power outlets, decorative paintings, furniture opposite the bed, under the table and chair, tissue box, and other objects,…

In addition, the bathroom should also be thoroughly checked, as hidden cameras can also be hidden on the ceiling or bathroom door.

How to detect hidden cameras

After checking into the hotel room, besides unplugging the TV plug, you should carefully check the room to see if criminals have installed hidden cameras or not. To detect hidden cameras, you should use the following methods:

– Observe carefully with the naked eye under sunlight

You should open all the curtains to let in natural light or turn on all the lights in the room. Look at every position in the room, and for special corners in the room such as items mounted on the wall, paintings, fire alarms,… you should touch them directly to check.

– Turn off the lights and use the flashlight or camera flash on your phone

Most mini cameras are equipped with red or green LED lights. If placed in a hidden position, they will blink more due to the low light, so you can close the curtains, turn off all the lights in the room and observe. If there are hidden cameras, they will reflect the light from the phone flashlight.

Alternatively, you can turn on the recording mode on your phone, and move the phone camera around the room. If there is a hidden recording device in the room, you will see bright spots on your phone screen.
