Brushing Teeth After Breakfast
After eating, many people brush their teeth to make them clean, but it’s not a good practice because it can affect tooth enamel.
You should wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth. After eating, the teeth are exposed to acid in the food, hot or cold, which weakens the enamel and makes it more susceptible to damage. Brushing your teeth immediately after a meal can cause tooth enamel to erode and can lead to oral health problems.
Going to Bed After Eating
Resting after eating is reasonable, but instead of lying down, you should sit and rest. Eating too much puts a burden on the stomach, making you feel tired and wanting to lie down after a meal for more comfort. However, this action increases the likelihood of acid reflux, irritation to the esophagus and stomach, and over time, it can lead to digestive problems. Sleeping after eating also hinders the digestion process.
Drinking a Lot of Water After Eating
Some people drink a lot of water after eating to “clean the mouth,” but this will dilute the gastric juices and affect the digestion process, making it difficult to digest over time. Therefore, after a meal, you should only drink a small amount of water.
Taking a Shower After Eating
Taking a shower immediately after a meal increases blood flow to the hands and feet but decreases blood flow in the digestive tract. Therefore, taking a shower after eating can affect the digestion process. The best time to take a shower is 1 hour or longer after eating if you feel too full.
Walking and Exercising After Eating
Activities like walking, exercising after eating will divert blood flow away from the digestive system, affecting digestion. Especially in older people, it can cause a decrease in cardiac function, atherosclerosis, and disorders of blood pressure regulation. You should rest for 30 minutes after a meal and then continue activities after the food is digested.
After a meal, you can take a few steps around the house, but it’s best to sit and rest for about 30 minutes before doing anything.
For the above reasons, you should avoid these activities after eating to ensure your health.
