The Meaning of Sunflowers
Every flower has its own unique story and message. While roses symbolize sweet confessions of love, lilies convey a message of “best wishes for a hundred years of good union”. When giving flowers, it is important to choose ones that suit the occasion. So, what does the sunflower mean, and why is it such a popular gift choice?
In reality, sunflowers carry a multitude of meanings, varying across different cultures. However, the common thread is that sunflowers always represent something positive and wholesome.
Longevity and Vigorous Life
In Chinese culture, sunflowers are seen as a symbol of longevity. This heliotropic flower always turns towards the sun, showcasing a vigorous life force, longevity, and a forward-looking and upward-striving attitude. Thus, people often gift these flowers on important occasions such as birthdays, grand openings, and celebrations of long life.
Respect and Gratitude
Sunflowers are also considered a way to express respect and gratitude to loved ones. They are an excellent choice for gifts to grandparents, parents, or mentors on special days like birthdays, Father’s Day, or International Women’s Day.
Optimism, Strength, and a Bright Future
Additionally, sunflowers convey a message of faith, hope, and the pursuit of light and all things good. They can be given to someone who is feeling discouraged, to lift their spirits, or to someone who is ill, to inspire hope for a beautiful life. More recently, sunflowers have been used in campaigns for children with cancer, symbolizing strength and encouragement to overcome their challenging illnesses.
Loyalty and Sincerity
Did you know that sunflowers are at their most beautiful when they are basking in the sun’s rays? Even when they grow in the dark or in places with insufficient light, they will always strive to turn towards the sun.
This is akin to love. When your heart beats for someone, your mind and soul are devoted to that person. No matter where they are or where they go, your love for them remains unchanged. The one you love is like the sun, warming and illuminating your heart.
Today, I will guide you through the process of creating a sunflower basket made of crepe paper – a simple yet stunning craft.
How to Make a Beautiful Crepe Paper Sunflower Basket
Method 1
Materials
- Crepe paper (yellow, brown, and green)
- Tissue paper
- Net fabric
- Candy (for the flower’s center)
- Wire
- Glue
- Other decorative materials of your choice
Step 1
– First, cut a piece of brown crepe paper into a square. Place a piece of candy in the center, wrap it with the brown paper and net fabric, and then secure it with thread to form the flower’s center. This method is simple, and the glittery candy makes an attractive center.

Step 2
– Cut the yellow crepe paper into a long strip with a width equal to the length of the candy and a length eight to ten times the candy’s circumference. Cut fringes along the length of the strip, place the candy in the middle, and then roll it up.
Step 3
– Use your fingers to bend and shape the petals outward. Insert the wire through the candy and secure it with wax to form the stem.
– After completing this step, your flower should look like the one in the picture. Repeat these steps to make more flowers.
Step 4
– Decorate the basket with other materials. You can also use green crepe paper to make green roses to attach to the basket – it looks adorable.
– With these simple steps, you can easily create a beautiful and inexpensive gift. All you need is a bit of creativity and time. This lovely and meaningful gift is perfect for grandmothers, mothers, teachers, or girlfriends on special occasions.

Method 2
Materials
– Crepe paper (dark yellow, light yellow, brown, and green)
– Scissors
– Tape
– Wire
– Thread and a small piece of green foam shaped like a mountain
Steps:
Step 1
First, cut the crepe paper as follows: Cut the dark yellow paper into a strip with a width of two strips (use paper with veins to distinguish the strips) and a length of about 20 cm. Cut the light yellow paper with a width of 1.2 strips and a length of about 15 cm. Cut the brown paper into a strip long enough to wrap around the mountain-shaped foam.
Cut the crepe paper to the appropriate size.
Step 2
Next, use the brown paper to wrap the mountain-shaped foam and secure it with thread. Cut fringes along the length of the dark yellow paper strip, and do the same with the light yellow paper, but make the fringes smaller and shorter.
Cut fringes in the crepe paper and wrap the brown paper around the foam.

Step 3
Then, thread the wire through the flower’s center and wrap it tightly. Use the wire to gently press the fringes of the light yellow paper, making half of them curve forward and the other half curve backward. Cut the ends of the dark yellow fringes into a slightly rounded shape to form the petals.

Cut and shape the petals.
Step 4
Now, wrap the light yellow paper around the brown center, starting with the half that has the fringes curving inward. Then, wrap the other half with fringes curving outward.

For the dark yellow paper, use the scissors to gently curve the fringes.
Wrap the paper around the center and shape the petals.
Step 5
Finally, wrap the petals around the outside of the center and secure them with thread. Your sunflower is almost complete!
As a finishing touch, cut some green paper to form the flower’s base and wrap it with green tape. Make sure to completely cover the wire from the base to the stem.

Method 3
Materials
– Crepe paper (yellow, green, and brown)
– Glue
– Scissors and pliers
– Flower wrapping paper
– Ribbon
– Green paper tape
– Double-sided tape
– Steel wire
Step 1
Make the flower’s stem. Use a 40 cm long piece of wire and wrap it with crepe paper, gluing the paper as you go. Wrap the wire three times with paper to make the stem thicker and more proportionate to the flower.

Step 2
Create the flower’s center using brown crepe paper. Cut the paper into long strips, fold them in half (the width should be about 4 cm), and then fold them again to make four layers. Cut small slits along the folded paper, cutting only halfway through.

After cutting the paper, you should have four strips. Wrap them around the top of the stem, gluing as you go to secure them in place.
Step 3
Make the petals using yellow crepe paper. Cut a wide strip of paper (about 8 cm) and fold it in half. Cut the paper to create a delicate petal shape.
![](https://meohay.vn/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/cach-lma-hoa-huong-duong-3.png)
Open the cut paper and use the scissors to gently curve the petals. Wrap the petals around the center, gluing as you go. You will need two strips of petals for each flower.
Step 4
Make the flower’s base using green crepe paper. Follow the same process as making the petals, but cut the paper to create a pointed shape. Use your fingers to gently curve the paper and twist the pointed end.
![](https://meohay.vn/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/cach-lma-hoa-huong-duong-4.png)
Once the base is complete, wrap it around the bottom of the petals, gathering it at the base and securing it with green paper tape.
Step 5
Create the leaves using green crepe paper. Attach double-sided tape to half of the paper and place the wire on top.
Fold the paper in half to stick the two halves together, and then fold and cut it to create a leaf shape. Attach the leaf to the stem using green paper tape.
Step 6
Arrange the flowers into a bouquet and decorate. Once you have made about seven flowers (or as many as you desire), use green paper tape to secure them together. Then, wrap the bouquet with flower wrapping paper.

Tie a ribbon around the bouquet to add a charming touch. Alternatively, you can skip this step and display the flowers in a vase.
