1 Get Your Tools Ready
To cut a chicken like a pro, you’ll need the following tools:
– A large cutting board that can accommodate the chicken.
– A sharp knife.
– A pair of sharp scissors.
2 Let’s Get Started
Step 1: Remove the Backbone
Using your scissors, cut along both sides of the backbone, from the neck to the tail. Completely remove the backbone from the chicken. This step will make it easier to split the chicken into halves.
Step 2: Split the Chicken
Once the backbone is removed, use your hands to hold the drumsticks and pull the chicken apart, as shown in the image below.
Step 3: Remove the Cartilage
There’s a soft, white, almost translucent cartilage under the chicken’s belly that connects to the center and joins the bones. The best way to remove this cartilage is to cut it from both sides, then cut around it. Hold and pull to remove it faster.
Step 4: Flatten the Chicken
Turn the chicken over to its skin side and use the palm of your hand to press down firmly in the middle of the chicken to flatten it. Now it looks better and is easier to cook.
Step 5: Cut it in Half (Optional)
After step 4, your chicken is ready for cooking. However, if you want, you can cut it in half. To do this, use your knife to cut through the middle between the wings and drumsticks.
Now, you can marinate and roast them in the oven for your dinner. With this cutting method, your chicken will look more appealing on the plate. Good luck!
