Rose
Slice a cucumber thinly and soak it in salted water, gently squeezing the slices to soften them.
Stack the cucumber slices on top of each other, with each slice overlapping the previous one by about half its length, to create a straight stack of approximately 20 slices.
Roll up the stack of cucumber slices to form a rose shape. Finally, cut one side of the rose to create a flat base so that it can stand upright on a plate.
Rose Bud
To create a rose by curling the cucumber, choose a thin, elongated cucumber. Use a knife to carefully shave off the sides of the cucumber, leaving the core intact.
Roll a slice of cucumber into a tight bud shape, then flip it over and continue rolling, adding more slices as you go, until you’ve created a rose.
The size of your rose can vary depending on the size of your plate or serving dish.
Leaf
Cut a cucumber in half lengthwise, then make a diagonal cut at one end. From here, cut seven thin, even slices, leaving a 2mm connector at the end of the slices. You’ll need about 5-6 of these sets, depending on the size of your plate.
Gently fold back every other slice (2, 4, 6) to create a soft, leaf-like curl. This will give you a beautiful cucumber leaf to decorate your dish.
With these simple techniques and a little practice, you can create beautiful rose and leaf shapes from cucumbers to decorate your dishes. No need for complex vegetable carving knives—just a few easy steps and you’re on your way to success!
