Eliminating Odor and Bacteria in the Toilet Bowl

As we all know, the toilet bowl is a breeding ground for bacteria and often emits an unpleasant odor, hence the need for frequent scrubbing. But sometimes, even with daily scrubbing, the toilet bowl odor can be hard to avoid. In this case, you can use a balloon.

Actually, the balloon itself cannot eliminate the toilet bowl odor or kill bacteria. To use a balloon for the toilet bowl, first, pour toilet bowl cleaner or scented water into the balloon, and then you can place it under the tap to add a little water.

Note that you should not pour too much water to avoid overstretching the balloon. Then, tie a knot at the mouth of the balloon.

Balloons are highly elastic, so when you fill them with water, they will automatically expand. At this point, use a needle or a small toothpick to poke 1-2 small holes in the balloon.

Next, place the balloon containing toilet bowl cleaner or scented water into the toilet tank. This way, the scented water will mix with the water in the tank, and when you flush, it will flow down, effectively eliminating the toilet bowl odor.

Alternatively, you can replace the balloon containing toilet bowl cleaner with a toothpaste tube with holes poked in it, or a bar of soap, or a toilet bowl freshener…. all of these will work.

Eliminating Odor from the Drain

The bathroom drain can emit an unpleasant odor, and sometimes small insects can be seen flying out of it. In this case, you can use a balloon to solve these problems.

First, use scissors to cut a hole in the bottom of the balloon to fit over the drain cover on the floor. Since the balloon is elastic, you don’t need to cut a large hole.

Next, lift the drain cover on the floor and insert the balloon. Follow the illustration below.

Then, cut off a portion of the balloon’s mouth, and you’ll have a simple drain cover.

When water flows through the drain pipe, the mouth of the balloon will automatically open to let the water flow down. When the water stops flowing, the mouth of the balloon will automatically seal shut, not only preventing the odor from spreading but also keeping small insects from flying out.

With this method, it is recommended to replace the balloon every 1-2 months.
